Hi Team!
Pros and Cons of Ducer Thru Hull Mount in a fibergalss boat?
Regards
cons: Some loss of sensetivity does occurr, even on the best hulls. this varies from hull to hull, and even from different installations on the one hull. this is caused by differences in hull layup and construction. Transducer angle can't be changed although this is not an issue on for your flasher style sonars.
Pro's: Typically, shoot thru hull installations give excellent high speed operations and good to excellent depth capability.
There is no possibility of damage to the transducer from floating objects. or when loading unloading from trailer.
mines a shoot thru installation and it absolutely gives great arches. and a clear display cept for when i'm flat out for some reason. 4 mt tinny and i think it's vibration giving me the willy's, but all in all a great setup.

Thanks for reply.
What ducer are u using ?
I have some eyes set on the P79 from Airmar - Thoughts?
I also read that shoot-thru ducers only work on fibreglass boats with max 3/4" thick solid glass and not cored.
I have a Haines 530 and wondered how I can get the hull spec on this 1989 model -have tried Haines themselves but cannot give me answers - Thoughts?

I have no idea on the haines. I would mount it towards the centreline about 3 inches in from the rear. Have it done properly if you want good results.
my dad has the shootthru on his tinny, to be honest, i just use it a hell of alot and treat it like my own.I'ts a 4. 2 mtr tinny and he's running an old faruno with a decent transducer on it. He got it done at manly by a bloke that does them down there.
i got a garmin ff120 transom mount. That info comes from the garmin book i got with the unit. it's ok for the rivers depth etc. not much chop though. and no signal at speed either.
Thanks
Is speed bettter measured at the sounder or with the GPS?
Smelly
sounder is alright.
smelly, your right not a real smart thing expecting to shoot thru a alloy? what you intend using the spped for as there is difference between gps speed and sounder speed. two different things really
Thanks manta.
Speed: I am going to buy a GPS and a separate Sounder unit.
Reasons for asking aboust speed measure is that some ducers I am intersted in do not measure speed and some do..
I do not know whether I should be biasing my sounder ducer choice with or without speed..?
I wish to know why is speed measure useful and in what circumstances is speed measured.
What benefits do I see speed from GPS and what benefits do I see speed from Sounder?
