Seek help on "THEHULLTRUTH" website - some very deep discussion on ducers - they will fix you up - when you know - let me know too..
Have recently purchased a Furuno 582L sounder with transom mount Triducer (depth, temp, speed)
After fixing to transom of boat in best position for clean undisturbed water have found that it will not hold a good sounding at planing speeds. I think this may be due to the trim tabs stiring up the water.
Have heard that you can fix a transom mount transducer to the inside of the hull (fibreglass) with a certain compound and still recieve good bottom soundings.
Not worried about the loss of speed and temp readings.
Any info on such moifications would be great.

This is my setup, holds bottom in most seas

Thanks for the replies Smelly & Spaniard_King.
I should have used the term in-hull transducer not thru-hull (as in Spaniard_Kings installation.
I am wanting to stick it to the inner surface of the planning plank (not thru). My reason is simply to save forking out the bucks for another thru-hull or in-hull transducer which in my case should have purchased in the first place.
Somebody on THEHULLTRUTH forum suggested in a previous thread, too put the transducer in a bag full of water/oil, hold agianst hull and see what happens. Might give this a go, could be a bit tricky though

A mate has just set up his lowrance 107 the way you want set yours up.He basicly found a good spot on the inside of the hull and tested the trans out then usud sikaflex to mount the trans to the hull.Says he gets a great bottom reading doing 30 kn.Maybe send him a pm and he can let you know more details.
PM to grumpyoldman.

I fitted a thru hull transducer to mine 'cos it sits in the water all the time and grows. It's really good, holds bottom etc and I don't think there is much difference in the actual soundings and fish spotting abilities. No problem at all and mine is on a Navman 4600. The only downside, of course, is that I don't get any water temp readings...
Hope this helps
Neil
It's a good idea to put the transducer in a plastic bag with water and also some water in the bige area to test if the location(s) provides good performance at various speeds before permanently fitting the transducer.
Once a good location is found the transducer can be mounted in a bed of epoxy resin or sikaflex. Epoxy resin provides better results than sika but it is very hard to remove the transducer once the epoxy has set. Also check that the planing plank does not contain any timber stringers ect. as this will serverly degrade the performance of the sounder. It is very important to be sure that there is no air bubbles in either the epoxy or sikaflex as this will also degrade the sounder performance.
Yeh thanks J-MAN, have heard epoxy resin is the go from other sources as well.
Thankfully me and my brothers built the boat ourselves therefore am sure there is no timber or un-consolidated glass in the plank
Thanks again everyone for your comments
