Where did you dig this old post out Heath?
Thanks for the Heads up on the DF. I went the Matrix though back mid last year. Been back 2x and replaced once so I'm happy I bought local.
My next unit will most likely not be from the same manufacturer and next time I'll go colour.
Thanks for the replies guys.

Sorry Heath didn't note Smelly above you.
Smelly, if you can't track the bottom properly the unit will just give you rubbish. In deep water we really focus on finding structure like a rise or a drop or a change in the bottom makeup as the wider you are the smaller any fish will appear on the screen. If you're wide, find the structure and give up trying to see fish.
Good luck

Thanks BB.
I am now thinking of getting a 582L with an M260 (Airmar code #) Transom Mount Transducer..that will maximize my bototm lock potential. Very Powerful combination!

No problems with my X135. 8 months old. Great unit. Easily fishes to 60 meters (deepest water I've been in).
