    Hi Angler,

Have had quite a bit to do with my garmin and it is fantastic. Easy to use Menu is easy. Mine is a 12 xl.
My old man has a yellow one cannot remember its model but the point is that the menus the same and does all the things mine does and is cheaper. Runs on 2 AA batteries as opposed to mine which runs on 4, however mine will run for approx 24 hrs on a set of alkaline batteries.

Use mine out in the boat, 4wheel driving and dirt bike riding, best thing ever.

Careful with the garmin - if you are considering it, make sure it is not the yellow personal navigator (bottom of the range one). Get the next one up - E-Trex LEGEND.

Both are good, but on the standard e-Trex you cannot use Ocean Charts - found out the hard way.

I envy you buying a new one - I love buying new kit.

    Re: gps purchase

    Hello all,

I am thinking of buying a Garmin GPS72, costing about $279 at present. Elsewhere people have had mostly good things to say about the GPS72, given that it is a basic grey-scale non-mapping unit. One problem is that some of the features (tide times and WAAS facility for example) only work in North America.

Does anyone have any comments/experience with this model?

    Thanks

    Mike
