If only we had this

I don't know if the unit retrieves any information directly with the tide station(s) or whether the information from those stations is physically stored in the bluechart.
What little info there is on the Garmin web site suggests the latter.
Unless the data from the tide stations is transmitted somehow by satellite I can't see how the unit could retrieve it.
Be far cheaper and easier to collate the tide predictions from the various stations and store them on the chart. Any form of radio communication (directly between a GPS and tide station) would be hugely expensive and unreliable IMO.

Further Update,
I spoke to A somewhat locate GPS store yesterday,
The saleman said that if I buy the map, I could use the tide feature.
The Map covered most of the East coast of australia.
I will confirm map and cost today and advise of outcome.
The main reason I want it is for ease, Just turn on my gps and i would now the tides.
He also said if i had a laptop i could link up the 2 while moving and get info that way, since i can not put maps into the GPS unit.
Cheers
Jason
Hey Again,
Just spoke to another bloke in the store and he said that the Tide Times function in the unit are Useless in Australia and will not work. No matter what is done.
Bugger
Jason
Just found this site.... It has them with Australian Tide Maps in them.
http://www.telstat.com.au/garmin.htm
Its half way down the page.
Interesting...
Jason
maybe the seller loads them himself??
says this for GPS 76 when you click on the pic.
The GPS 76 is a low-cost solution for land or marine navigation designed to provide precise GPS positioning.
The GPS 76 features a built-in quad helix antenna for superior reception and can provide position accuracy to less than three meters when receiving differential corrections. An extra-large display measuring 4.1 cm x 5.6 cm gives users a clear view of information, while a waterproof case means the GPS 76 will keep working well even if it's been submerged in water. Even more amazing, this unit will actually float if accidentally dropped in the water.
The GPS 76 has 1 megabyte of internal memory which has been preloaded from the factory with worldwide cities (populations greater than 200,000) and nautical navigation aids such as lights, buoys, sound signals and day beacons. The GPS 76 is also preloaded with tide data for the United States (unit does not presently support Australian tidal stations).
doesn't mention tides if you click on the 72
Hi all,
Just shopping for a GPS and saw this on the Garmin Map76 firmware page
"Changes made from version 3.40 to 3.41:
* Added tide support for European and Australian tides version 5.0.
* Added support for RCV_CPO data."
I'll test it fully and see if I can make it work
Garmin 72 owner too, very interested in the outcome of this thread.
Damo
Well I have the GPSMAP76 along with Blue Charts V7.5 and it works a treat and with it loaded up I can click on any place in the world for a tide time.
Blue Charts now have the WHOLE east coast not like a couple of years ago you had to purchase about 4 sections @ $ 185 ea now it is about $125 for the same 4 sections.
I find it just so simple to opperate and NEVER had a problem with landing on the spot that I have entered at home.
Same with City Navigator V6 I could put your address in there and it will pull me in you drive, give or take a couple of Meters.
Best thing I have ever bought.
It not only works on your GPS but gives you all the mapping on the PC AND STORES ALL THE WAYPOINTS, save as a .GPX file and print them out in spreadsheet programs. I also use GSAK www.http://gsak.net/ also and find it to be one of the best Waypoint Manager programs.

Also I bought a Garmin 60C which does have Tide Prodiction (the online Specs state that it doesn't) I tested them using the USA gobal map and it worked (Thats if you want to know thw tides in the US from here). I'm assuming BlueChart has the tidal bouy location as the standard Garmin International map can't find any info.
There are tidal Stations right around Oz and if the waterways you want to fish are tidal you just need to know the tome diferance Eg. Caloundra bar 10am # Bells creek would be around 1h20m later .
just checked and there is a station in Botany Bay.
@ S33 58.997 E151 13.001 so if you wanted to fish the Cook River you would need to know the tidal diferance for there. what I would surgest is to find a place that that can show you this program.
Not sure where you are but if you were around the Sunshine Coast I would be more than happy to run through it with you
Steve
Below tidal Stations shown as circles with a slash through them
Just spoke to someone who is in the GPS game and it is all bad news the GPS72 will not take
The Tidal Info from Blue Charts BUGGER!!!!!!

2. Is there tidal buoys within this region?
This is the only Tide Bouy listed for that area S33 58.997 E151 13.001 and there is No depth readings
I have used you map so you get an idea where it is
steve
Well it has one so i guess thats all you need. Any chance you could answer my 1st questions regarding the level of detail for inland waters? Does bluechart cover the the same map area and hopefuly more.
I would like to know before buying the software as I plan to do more inland stuff the outside
The answere to that is NO
