I was wondering how reliable these modern electronics are these days. I have only bought 2 in my lifetime, a lowrance x125 and garmin etrex, both have performed perfectly from day one out of the box.
Is this the case with most purchases?
How often did you buy electronics that needed repair or were faulty out of the box?
I am interested because with all this talk about people buying cheap electronics from overseas (and without local warranty), what is the level of risk?

99.999% of the time it is finga trouble!!
I got a dud Transducer for a Garmin ff240 Blue was drivin me crazy till I took the whole lot to GME and the transducer was found to be at fault and replaced
This only took 3 months to work out

In production runs due to costs all items are not tested only one item in a batch will be tested. If you get a working item straight out of the box you will generaly find it to be reliable (don't attack me I know there are exceptions). It is not much difference to times of old. I remember as a kid getting a brand new black and white television straight out of the box and it not working and having to be exchanged.
