    Navman 5500 plotter help.

Guys i have the Navman 5500 and i'm havin drama with it, being though most of my work is offshore i haven't noticed that i am missing one of my maps. Halfway down Russell Island a new map starts. It goes from there to Southport roughly but the map wont load the details for there. For example it shows my tracks but not the markers etc. Shows the islands and tracks and nothing more when you zoom in. Other than that it shows all the details from tweed too Whitsundays. Can anyone help? Or did i not make any sense at all.

    Thanks ....Darryl.

I have same GPS, but with Darwin to Ballina card. Mine shows all details. I wonder if you should take it back to where you purchased, and get checked. Sounds odd, missing one bit. Cheers Pete

Don't you just love this response. No help what so ever. Bagging a product will not solve the problem. I know of problems listed on this site with a lot of the other electronic gear as well. I actually know someone that had a problem with a Navman unit and it had to go in for repair. The technician then gave him another unit to use while his was being repaired. Souns like pretty good service to me. That was about 3yrs ago and has had no problems since.

    Crestcutter,
Do a reset factory options. It will not delete you GPS marks or tracks but it will reset the fuel setup if you have a fuel computer.

If this does not fix it then it sounds like a card problem and not the NAVMAN at all.

I dont think there are any detailed maps available for that area. They are all blank as I dont think they (software people - Garmin, Navionics etc) have access to them from government.

My Bluechart was the same around there.

Yeah cheers Foggy but i did do a factory reset mate and it didn't help so i reckon Greg could be on the money . It's not the unit that's for sure, i would say card , or as Greg said they dont cover the area. I never have fished the Pin with the colour plotter so have never noticed it until now...

And as for bagging Navman well i think they are a top product and have never had problems with the Navman colour sounder i have either.

    Cheers .....

I don't know why some people are always bagging Navman.I have used these units(gps5500&sounder4500) for over two years without any problems.I've had the software updated on both these units recently and have found there service friendly and prompt.

Yes it is Black-jack, i rang C_MAP yesterday and they have no details for that area as yet. Something about government not giving the access to those areas .

    Cheers

Saltfish, I have the same units in my boat (recently purchased 2nd hand from a dealer). What are the current software revisions for these units, and how did you go about getting the software updated? What was the cost involved and turnaround time?

Jekyll , cant tell you what the current versions are , but i know mine is a 2002 card and it needs upgrading, the cost is 180 bucks. You send it away to C-MAP and from what i was told yesterday it is only a 2 week thing.

I rang them yesterday and they were bending over backwards with information for me.
