    Transducer Shooting Problem

I currently own a Furuno 582L 600watt sounder, with 600watt wet box style transducer. Currently I am experiencing weak readings with the transducer shooting thru my hull. I am considering purchasing a 1Kw thru hull transducer and mounting it with a high speed faring block to the underside of my boat. I am not a great fan of transom mount transducers. I am limited to internal space cause of my stern drive.

Does anybody know about positioning the new transuder properly before I go cutting holes in my boat. Or does anybody have a suggestion on what or how to mount properly. Since I have a stern drive arrangement, would like to know how others have mounted there transducer. Some photos would be good.

All suggestions and help would be appreciated.

Nick who logs on in the name " black and blue " has the 582 and recently put the 1kw option on his stern drive centre cab . He did the faring block thing and it gets good depth now , not sure at speed though . Try and pm him ,he may have photos .

    G'day loozit,

Can't help with the transducer mount, sorry, but can you clear up a query I have about transducers.

What is the advantage of using 1Kw transducers with 600w output sounders? Are they more sensitive, is the ceramic disk bigger.
I'm interested in how the units work, I'm on a learning curve.
Isn't it still only 600w going the transducer?

    regards
    Steve.

    Gelsec,

As far as I have found out, the sounder unit will still only be able to use 600w with the 1Kw tranny, but your sensitivity on reading is greatly increased, The 1Kw tranny has a bigger surface area, increasing clarity of reading. The only thing thats stopping me purchasing a 1Kw is the price and the size of the transducer, Not sure if $1300 for the tranny is worth it, for not a super improvement, plus the actual size of the tranny and fairing block is massive, the boat won't fit on the trailer without extensive mods.

Spaniard_King, thanks for the photo, awesome to see, You have a good location of the tranny in the flat section of your boat, how did you know we the optimum position was prior th cutting the boat, and who fitted it. What is the other silver thing on the left hand side.

    Loozitt,

Garry fitted it himself & that silver thing is his live bait tank pickup.
