Navman 5110i Download marks to computer

My GPS has started developing fog on the screen, (you get that in an open boat and yes its out of warranty))I want to save my marks onto a computer, so I need to download from the GPS.
Has anybody done this before? or be willing for me to bring my unit around and save them for me onto a disc

    regards

    Michael

    gday michael,

m8, i could be wrong, but i have heard a rumour that the navman chartplotters are one of the few that don't have P.C. connectability.

either way, if you have any valuable marks, i'd get 'em down on paper before the urge to stick ones boot up ones own ar$e develops.

i have learnt from experience, foggy plotters are a ticking time bomb, get your marks recorded and your gps in for repair quicksmart.

if the fogging has just started, i'd predict you have about 12 months tops life out of her before the corosion kills it. get it early, its easy fixed, late and you are shopping.
    good luck,

    Damo

Re: Navman 5110i Download marks to computer

    1. Extremely bad practice to send any data storage electronics away for service as you should never expect any unit to come back with the data still intact

    2. Having to rely on hand written downloads and manual uploads should be a thing of the past. Technology is generally better than this practice

    3. If this unit can not be connected to a computer for data upload/download then this is a poor design with regards today's technology

    4. If there is no pluggable data storage system where the data can be copied to/from then I would be totally amazed that manufacturers are still in the dark ages?

Go to this site www.gpsu.co.uk, download the shareware version. You will need a cable to conect the GPS to your computer. Go to this web site www.gpscables.com and download the details of the appropriate cable or maybe the Navman site may have these details. Once you have those items you'll be able to up/download all the information and overlay all your marks on a map on the PC. I have been doing this for years now, not rocket sceince !!

No, I don't like em. I have run Garmin for some years now and currently opperate a color 182C. I use ALL the functions on the GPS and have the VHF and the autopilot take various information from the GPS. If anyone wants detailed information as to cable connection or how to do the box and dice let me know.

    1. So you really would not know if a Navman can be downloaded to a computer or not? Not all rockets work the same.

    2. Your comment then is not based relevant to Navman?

    3. From what I see regarding Navman specs there is nothing to indicate this suggestion will work.

Re: Navman 5110i Download marks to computer

You can use the NMEA output, not as robust as a port that's intended for a pc but you can still get all your waypoints and routes off the GPS and back in. Had a look on the Navman web site, seems that they say that any pc chit chat has to be done with C-Map PC planner. So without downloading the manual and finding out how this baby ticks I would say that all waypoints etc are held on the RAM card which you then plug into a card reader on the PC. This in one of many reasons why I dont opperate a Navman!

Re: Navman 5110i Download marks to computer

    1. NMEA will only work for upload/download of waypoints etc if the specific NMEA waypoint sentence/s is provided. Navman do not make the required waypoint sentence available so NMEA in the context of the original question and your comments will not work in this case and GPSU will also not work

    2. Normal NMEA type output in the navigation sense that just about every GPS supports is not quite the same as NMEA type waypoint management

    3. Transfer to C-Map is an option and obviously other compatible Navman devices can read this card. PC readable?
