will wet box help

I'm having trouble getting a clear reading on my sounder (hummingbird) over 20klm per hour in choppy conditions. Will installing a wet box help this problem. Ive been told to silicone a 100 mm length of 90mm pvc pipe to the aluminium bottom, then install a screw on end cap to the pipe. Does the transducer then get siliconed to the cap or do I cut out the exact shape of the transducer & fix it into the lid so it protrudes below the bottom surface of the cap. Then the box is filled with water till overflowing, the cap is then screwed down to expel all the air. Is this correct.

u can just silicone the tranducer to the bottom close to the center about a foot forward make sure there is no air traped between the 2 and u should be in bussniess

Wouln't recommend shooting through an alloy hull; the sounder performance will be degraded. You may still get some depth performance if it is a pressed alloy hull (2-3mm) but bottom discrimination will be greatly reduced.

I thought u could buy seperate transducers that enabled u to go through both alloy & glass hulls. Has anyone done this successfully.

something like a 600w in-hull trany will shoot thru GRP/poly/timber ok and only loose a little to attenuation. shooting thru alloy will loose a lot due to attenuation, not the best option if you're fishfinding, tho it will find the bottom.

standard practice with alloy is to have a thru-hull trany (mounted outside of hull) or transom mount.
