Using Furuno FCV600l
Hello Ausfish members. This is my first post on a chat room so please excuse.
I have a Furuno 600l and it is used mainly in fresh water. I use a downrigger and can pick it up on 50hz, but only patchy sometimes on 200hz. Water depth is 10-100metres. I have turned the gain in the menu right up to 20 and this makes no difference except to clutter the screen,i turn the clutter up and then get clear reading of bottom but no fish. Can anyone show me the settings that they use un fresh water to track downrigger. Is there a site dedicated to showing how to use Furuno sounders except for the manual. Any help would be much appreciated.

Don't know about fresh water but the highest gain I use with mine, in 50 to 60m of salt water, is about 6 and only at a very slow speed. Otherwise too much interferance.

For downrigging on dams with small LCD sounders all I do is reach over the transom and adjust the transducer so it shots backwards a bit to pick up the bomb. It will wreck your reading at speed but you will pick up your bomb. If it is a small enough boat you can keep reaching over the back and adjusting depending on what you are doing.
