    Pixel Resolution on GPS

    Hi Guys.

I am about to commit on a choice between two(2) GPS Garmin Chartplotters:
    1 - 172C (320 x 320 pixel res.) about $500
    2 - 292C (240 x 320 pixel res.) about $1k

Price aside, what difference would option 2 have on viewing when this pixel aspect is taken into account?

And, are these two units Navionics or CMap technology?

    Regards

The higher the vertical pixel resolution, the better off you are. You can see more detail.
As for charts, I used one of the old C-Map cards, and switched to a Navionics card.
Not sure if the C-Map cards have been updated, but my old chart didnt have contour lines, marker bouys, hazards etc etc whereas the navionics charts do. My recommendation would be Navionics.

    1. The higher the pixel count is not relevent by itself as you also must take into account the screen size to determine viewing resolution.

    2. If your intention was to use Navionics or C-Map then you will need to look at another manufacturer or different models.

    3. With a such a big price difference there has to be more in the higher price unit or is current technology etc.

    THanks.

Is the Garmin C-Map or Navionics?

    Smelly,

The Garmins are neither C-Map or Navionics. They run there own cards - Garmin Blue Charts.

Not a bad thing for the money either.

    cheers, Justin
