    Free NauticPath Charts

As you may or may not be aware, Eagle is offering a free Nauticpath chart of australia with any gps or combo unit purchased in Oz.

I recently had a combo imported from the states, and i am wondering if any one else who has done this has been able to get the free chart from eagle and how?

I have heard they are not as good as the Navionics, but a free chart is better no bloody chart IMO.

    Thanx lads, Damo

p.s. feel free to pm responses

    G'day Damo,

You have to send proof of purchase to Lowrance at Tweed Heads.

Just my opinion, but dont you think it is a bit rude by shafting Lowrance Australia by not purchasing the unit through Australia, and then trying to scum a free chart as well??

    Hi Grand_Marlin,

I will answer your question. No, it is not rude. I think it is rude that Lowrance Australia and most other companies are ripping off the australian consumer. I recently bought a Eagle 500c GPS and Eagle sounder 380DF for $811Au delivered from USA. The Eagle 500c alone here is $850.00.

    Fair comment Dionisay,

I would love to know how we end up with such a price difference between USA and here.

I still stand by what I say though ... it is an offer for Oz buyers ... if you have imported to save money, then suffer it ... buy your own chart.

    Cheers

hey, hey, hey, c'mon, we're all friends.

Grand Marlin, i understand your point, and if i had paid double the price for the same product i would be dirty too. This bullsh1t we here about extra advertising and infrastructure costs for the relatively small cusomer base in aus is exactly that - bullsh1t.
My mum's bingo group has a bigger advertising budget than these mobs put together.

And as for the likes of navionics, c-map etc. charging exhorbitant prices for their products for the same reason, well, they copy their data from the existing charts that the Australian Government has already paid to commission. So you could say that we have already paid for the groundwork to be done!!!! Now the electronic chart companys want to charge us all Xnumber of hundred dollars for some twit to sit at a computer and copy the info into their own file-formats.

If you don't think that this is a ripoff - think again!!!

It is a different story in the USA, where these companys will have a boat crisscrossing an inland lake to gather data. There is a reasonable cost associated with doing this.

Not in Oz!! do you really think that navionics have put a boat on the water or a plane with laser equipment in the air over the entire australian coastline to get the info needed to put in their charts.
Not a chance! And their updates only happen because of one of two scenario's.
    1) the maritime board makes an update of locales of shifted/added beacons and channells markers,
    2) the twit inputing the info in their files f#@*d up.

So no, i have absolutely no reservations about buying marine electronics overseas, and i would sleep perfectly soundly if i managed to get my hands on a free chart that you, me, and our forefathers have already paid to have done.
