It is an integrated digital system.
Part of a full package that displays the sounder, the plotter and the radar.
Great unit, but too many fiddly functions I reckon.

Bought a Furuno 582L about 2 years ago.
Liked the large screen, 600W power and the ease of changing settings without having to go through various menu options first.
Love it and has really improved our fishing. Saying that, I wouldn't mind the new 585 either.
White Rabbit, I'm with you. A great unit, just wish I could get more information out of it. Still not very clued up on interpreting what I see on the screen.
Humminbird matrix 27 didn't think I ever use the 3d of the 37, only have a 4.3 tinny so wanted 2in1 Sounder/GPS (riveted to seat and it works great) also has decent power for small buget unit 500W RMS. at around $800 with GPS att. was best value.
After having a couple of other cheaper sounder I think it does a good job keeps good bottom pic at 50 km/h, don't know how it would go out wide but I guess in the 14ft thats not a problem.

I just bought a second hand JRC 8010.
It has an 8" colour CRT screen
It has 1kw RMS
Has a tri frequency transducer - 200 / 50 / 28
Two features I love on it are:
1) The ability to set a range (say 20m) and shift it to anywhere in the water column at any depth ... beats hell outa the regular zoom function on most sounders
2) The sounder has a temperature graph on it which records temperature history of 6 or 8 hours. When connected to the gps, you can bring up the graph and run your cursor along it and it gives you the coordinates of any temperature changes ... you can then go straight back to where these temp changes were.
I find it brilliant when looking for pelagics when trolling.
It is an older sounder, but I just like its performance.

Grunter/onerabbit.... is the Furuno 582 a colour screen, and can i ask how much?
Might be time to invest in something better than what i have, which isnt much good for bottom detail, just depth and temp, not enough pixels etc on my old garmin to show anything in detail. Only shows fish as little pics of fish, if you know the one i mean.

I paid $2k for mine.
Have a look at the upgraded 585 model. I think this is about $2.5k.
Yep, $2k was about it, $1k more for the 1kw transducer.

i've had and used several sounders and i can suggest checking out the raymarine 600dsxpriced around 1500 from memory. ive had this sounder for a couple of years and if it broke down tomorrow it would be the first on my shopping list.
I have a JRC FF50 and love it, easy to use, change settings with minimal steps. I also love the fact, at full noise I see bottom and fish as clear as when I'm anchored.

Marintec Colour CRT screen.
Old brute but kills anything LCD, can be dropped, bounced, get wet and still keeps on trucking along.
Handles up to 600 metres and can see the eyeballs of the fish - almost!
i looked at the humminbird matrix 37 today. looked ok. any reports?
