    tacho settings

setting a tacho for a mate
    yammie 30 2 stroke (about 2004 model)
it says to set the tacho to 1/2 the alternator poles
so my question is how many poles does a yammie 30 have
    cheers

    Re: tacho settings

Has the tacho got settings on the back like a generic car tacho that had settings for 4, 6 and 8 cylinders?
Did you try it to see what reading you got??
Theoretically the number of poles has the same as effect as the number of cylinders in a car as the boat tacho counts the pulses per minute (or revs per minute times the number of poles) just the same as a car distributor counts the pulses to the coils?
You haven't a wiring diagram do you Blaze??
Hope this helps and not confuses
    If it's a 3 cylinder I found this

    or better still

    Blaze,

I think it should be a 12 pole alternator so you set the tach to 6 pulse.
