Does this Sound like a scam to you?

    Hi,

Found a bloke on ebay selling a few Navman TF6600 units, they are selling in aus for aroun $2500-$2800.

Hes offering me these for 500 US..
apparently brand new etc.. - here is his email responding to my queiry.
What do you guys think of this?

    Hello,
Thank you for your interest in my sale! Here are some information that might come in handy to you!
This item is brand new in its original sealed factory box, having all accessories included and 12 months international warranty.
The price I propose to you if you decide in buying now is 500usd/unit. The shipping and insurance taxes will be on my expense
because the package will be delivered from Europe.
As delivery service I use UPS 2days air service because it's the faster( in max 48 hours you will have the item at your
door) and because it includes insurance and 15 days return policy.
The payment will be made through Western Union money transfer.
For our protection we will do this deal trough ebay and our transaction will be supervised by ebay safe harbour team.
You will be 100% protected against description error and fraud.
If you don't like the product you can send it back and get all your money back (including Western's fees) without aditional
    questions.
Thank you and if you agree with these terms please mail me ASAP.
    Best regards!

Sounds awefully cheap, Have heard a few bad reports about users insisting on Western Union transfers too. Something about not being traceable I think. I'll stick to buying my gear from reputable local dealers, It might cost me a bit more, but worth it for my own peace of mind.

    Hi Huntsman,

hmmmm, you know what they say about a deal that seems too good to be true???

I guess if its done through ebay and they have a good track record with ebay it could be genuine. I think I'd be shooting ebay a querie about the company and their transaction record before comitting my oxford scholars to them.

Still I'd be chasing a garmin , gotta love the bluechart and ease of use! Besides, I'm with Dave and support the local dealer...after all what price is after sales service worth?

    Good luck

Yep, even if the seller has a good track record, make sure you check what sort of items they usually sell. If this is not what they normally deal in, it could be a hijacked account etc etc.

I think if you read e-bay tips and tricks they would have very very, did i say "very" strong reservations about buying through someone who insists on a money transfer through places like "Western Union"

P.S. Are you interested in some swamp land I have for sale?

Stop. Don't do it. Western Union is dodgy. I only deal with people with a paypal account.

The problem with western union is that they can pick up your money under a false ID. Then you have no way of tracing them.

Yes, this IS a scam. The UPS charges for the 2 day service & insurance alone would come in at US$100. That is , IF UPS ran a 2 day service to Bne. Check their site. I did. No service.
Easy to get a bunch of positive feedback on ebay. Then toss out the big bait........like cheap Navman gear.........get 50 or ?? many willing to give you $500..........Take the cash & go.
I buy from the US fairly often. The only way to go is via your Credit Card to a vendor with a real business. They will have walk in customers or a long track record of net sales.
If it turns nasty, then your CC provider will believe you over the seller if you are legit & have kept your emails, etc.
    NEVER pay by Western Union.
EDIT: Some REALLY FAST typists on this site. Much quicker than me
    ROLL TIDE, ROLL.................

    Peter

yes, its dodgy. Let me guess, did you bid on something else, and then he contacted you and made this offer? Thats the hallmark of a scam - unsolicited contact. Use western union and youll never see your money again. All the dodgy deals come from Europe. Its quite common on electronic goods like laptops. A sucker born every minute.

Only use paypal, as they are for legit dealers. Offer him paypal, and he will stop contact I bet.

I bought a sounder from www.cascademarine.com in the USA for around half price compared to aussie. There are plenty of honest dealers, and half price is not unusual.

Dont forget they have to go back to the US for warranty repairs.
