    AM/FM Marine Radio in Boat

Just wondering how many out there have one in your boat and if you have, did you run the antenna for thing seperatly or use a AM/FM splitter off either the 27Mhz or VHF antenna.

    Thanks

mate, I just have a car stereo mounted under the 27meg and just use on of those short floppy rubber car aerials. Been on the boat for 5 years now and never missed a beat. It's worked about 18km out of Evans
I mounted all the radios in a box so I can take the whole thing out when I wash the boat. The floppy rubber aerial is also mounted on the back of the box.
I put another one of the floppy aerials in a tinny I did up for a bloke. He didn't want a long aerial to get in the way and he recons it the ducks guts.
Some of the floppies are steel based and some are aluminium based as well.
You can just see the setup in the top RHS of the picture in my posting on this thread

Got a GME marine one in the boat with it's own aerial. Work's fine, reception good. Was already installed on the boat so no decision to make regarding the splitter.
Aerial is only short (about 60cm) but does the job

    Heath,
I had a splitter in the Gawby and the am/fm and 27 meg never worked realy well so i put a serperate aerial in for the am/fm and got rid of the splitter and they both improved out of sight.

Mate I had a splitter VHF/ am/fm and had a lot of trouble with it as it was interferring with the VHF reception, so I installed an ol cheapo rubber car aerial and things could not have been better.

    Thanks for the input guys.

I've ended up getting the 27Mhz splitter, so if it is crapola the VHF will still work fine.

Spent the day putting it in ( more holes in the boat! ), almost finished, just gotta hook up the power.
Will also be hooking up my MP3 player to it as well dunno why you would by the cd/mp3 player from GME. Those el cheapo FM transmitters doa fine job & are only about 8 bucks.
