Looking for some basic after maket or shareware software to transfer waypoint dat to and from PC to RayMarine Chartplotter (pathfinder series).
Have looked into CMap card reader + software but at $400+ thought I might see if any one had any clues on alternate method waypoint transfer. NMEA transfer would be fine as have managed transfers before using NMEA Talker software (bit cumbersome and requires transfer of data to NMEA strings). Must be something simpler out there?
I already have a couple of versions of Garmin PC Software, pcx5 and mapsource used for Garmin handhelds. Is there another version of Garmin software that can read/send NMEA strings to other brand units i.e Ratheon/Raymarine? This way I could convert/send all my existing Garmin Waypoints.
G'day,I was looking through some sites awhile back and came across a site called Marine Education Society of Australasia (MESA).There's a few sites listed within and one is http://www.maritimecd.com. This is from the ACADEMY OF MARITIME TRAINING,based in South AustraliaThey've got various CDs and one that stood out to me was Coastal Navigation. The CDROM supplied has "Free PC Plotter Software & Charts" included. The whole CD itself covers all sorts of navigation info and..
"covers the requirements of the RYA,US Sailing,Coastguard and Yachting Australia for coastal navigation. It also includes the skills and knowledge required for Coxswains and Coastal Masters for Certificates of Competence.
The UK,USA,New Zealand and Australian versions include chartwork and navigation excercises from their respective areas. It also includes video clips, sound files and animations."
I ordered the CDROM for $99 inc postage and got it just recently.I haven't had time to look at it yet but it really seems the goods!
It says in the info that it's used by Navy,Coastguard,Water Police,Maritime Colleges and is "Mac & PC Compatible"...It's also been given a 5 star rating by Yachting Monthly "Best Value Award".
Anyway after all that,it seems to be a great CDROM that I'm looking forward to learning more from...as well as the FREE PLOTTING SOFTWARE & CHARTS...can only make a person a much safer boater for sure
G'day,The plotter and charts are included free with the rest of the information...seems to be a $^1tload of goodies on the CD.It's a comprehensive training CD overall PLUS the free extras.
No I don't have any affiliation with them...just reckon I've got a very handy bit of equipment.
