Connecting furno ls4100 to gps

Hi guys

I have a brand new furuno ls4100 for my hornet and was wondering how to connect a gps to it, I read in an old post that a garmin has been connected to one before, I am looking at the magellan explorist xl hand held gps and was wondering if anyone knows how to wire them together.

The furuno manual is a bit light on with helpful instructions with this and just tell you to ring a dealer.

One other thing is that the manual said to install the transducer on the starboard side, my old one was on the port side where there are two mounting brackets for a transducer to go. I want to mount my new one there as well, why do they say mount it on the starboard side does it matter.

Give the boys at Taylor Marine a call. They'll probably able to tell you exactly which colour wire to join to which other coloured wire.

Hi the cable has 7 wires but only 2 yellow and green hook up to the gps the others hook up to a vhs radio the yellow and green hook up to the blue and brown wires on the gps cable
Yellow sounder to blue gps and green sounder to brown earth on gps cable

Boof, thanks mate, are you serious about the vhf radio, why connect your sounder to a radio. Also what do I do with the uninsulated wire I guess it is the shield wire where does it go. Also on the back of the sounder there is a butterfly nut with an earth symbol beside it, what is connected to it, where do I get an earth from in an aluminium boat.

One last thing I guess the cable from the gps you refer to is the usb cable that plugs into your computer, do I just get another usb cable that fits into the gps and cut the other end of so that I can join them to the sounder, and will this cable have the same colours your talk about.

in the furuno manual it says
white wire = NAV equipment TD-A
blue wire = NMEA0183 TD-B
yellow wire = V1.5/2.0/3.0 RD-A
green wire = sensor RD-B

what does TD and RD mean

I rang the boys at taylor marine

for my setup (furuno fcv 620 to Garmin 128 ) I was told the following


Garmin Furuno
Blue to yellow
Brown to White

On the furuno wires you also have to put the green and blue to earth

Thanks for the replies, think I will ring taylor marine also in case each model is different, not sure if I can do it with a magellan handheld anyway, if I can I will post the results.

Hello Tony where did you get your LS4100 from?
Amazon.com has them for $US 200 with the transom transducer.
As space is an issue the LS6100 is out for me.

In the end a mate of mine got two at the brisbane boat show, one for me one for him at $440, the sales guy wouldn't come any lower, best price before the show was $475, so only $35 off, I was thinking that $400 would of been a nice boat show special price.

I went this way because at the time the best overseas was $335 all up to my door and for only a savings of $100 I thought bugger the hassles, oh and the sales guy made my mate an offer he couldn't refuse, a stubbie holder and a shirt each my shirt is two small, or is it that i'm too big but my can fits in the stubbie holder very nicely

I will be getting my gps probably from http://www.cascadegps.com, they have it for about $400aus best I can do here is $960, if I had bought my sounder overseas that's where I was going to get it from as well.
