Lowrance Sounder - No arches
Has any Lowrance users out there had a problem with no arches being shown?
The bottom is displayed fine and heaps of replies if using Fish ID, but nothing with Fish ID turned off. I've tried varying sensitivity levels to no avail.
I'm just learning about the X91 I got with the boat I just purchased and hoping this is just finger trouble, but I have heard this may be a generic prob with Lowrance sounders.
Any advice would be great

Re: Lowrance Sounder - No arches
Sounds normal to me. The arches are only produced when a fish passes through the sonar cone at the correct angle and speed, any thing different and you wont get them. Most of the time you will see diagonal streaks, blobs, or little line segments that won't look like a fish but are. Also the fish symbols will give false readings because they weaken the processing power of the unit and it will call an air bubble a fish.

Re: Lowrance Sounder - No arches
Frazzel, I don't have a Lowrance, but my Furuno dosesn't display fish arches when in "Cruising" mode as opposed to "Fishing" mode. Cruising mode is for when you are cruising to your fishing ground and it filters all but the largest fish.
Hope this helps

Re: Lowrance Sounder - No arches
Thanks for the replies.
Maybe I was a little to specific about the arches, I get no potential fish returns unless I'm in Fish ID.
The screen was empty apart from the bottom but when Fish ID was selected I got about half a dozen fish showing of various sizes. At the time I was doing about 2 knots and was in 25 feet of water.
I've seen quite a few different types of sounders before, Eagle, Humminbird and other Lowrances but have not encountered this. I would have expected that if a fish of any decent size is detected using Fish ID you should see some type of arch, diagonal line or horizontal line with ID off.
Next time I'm out, I'll try and get a pic of what it's doing.

Re: Lowrance Sounder - No arches
I had a good look at the settings and noticed that I had the Surface Clarity Control cranked up a bit and the Advanced Signal Processing set to Normal. I'll decrease the SCC and turn off the ASP and see what happens. I do agree with you guys that this sounds like a filtering issue.

Re: Lowrance Sounder - No arches
I get arches on the X135 but it has 4x the resolution of the X91. Even my little Cuda on the 10' tinny gets arches. Maybe something to do with the transducer angle? Haven't used fish symbols on either unit so can't compare. Arches are at their optimum at trolling speeds.

Re: Lowrance Sounder - No arches
Try setting your sensitivity to 80% to 90%. Also turn you noise reject to medium, and your ping speed to max. This may help. You may also want to do like whiteman said and check your transducer angle. It should be paralled to the bottom of the hull or tilted slightly forward but not tilted to the rear or the signal will pass behind the boat.

Re: Lowrance Sounder - No arches
Thanks again for all your input. I had a play with it today and found the errors in my setup, mainly my fingers.
Cheers again
