    Ozscott,
Are you saying you can connect your 178c direct to the pc with just a programmed data card?I,ve been informed by Garmin GME in Brisbane that I need to buy the mapping again but this time on a cd rom (for a retail price of $249)to be able to display the charts i have already purchased as a data card onto the pc.Think I may just invest the 250 into a dual battery system and the missus can go ahead and take the piss out of me when I grab a couple of beers and go sit in the boat and plot to my hearts content.
    cheers

    Hey Dave,
Whats a bloke supposed to do,always blowing 15-20,20-25knts up here in FNQ,getting out maybe once a fort night to the reef.Fortunate to live out of town so only my immediate family has to put up with some rather odd habits related to my fishing escapades.Since the cyclone up here in march my budget only extended to the garmin, but, nonetheless am very happy with it!If I had A Furuno however,my wife would probably accuse me of having an affair, because of my absences from the house!
    cheers

    - no mate you cant do it with the 178C unless you want no mapping on the PC - ie 172 you could apparantly.

Thought they were basically the same unit 172 =178 just that the 178 was able to be used as a sounder also thanks to the transducer.Wish I had known about this site prior to purchase and could have listened to the experience of others beforehand!Constantly amazed by the level of diverse experiences shared by so many on ausfish. What a fantastic resource!
    cheers
