Help With Sounders
Has anyone used the Hummingbird 500 series or matrix fish finders. If so, what is the quaility of the grey scale screen like in direct sunlight, is it worth having your hand held GPS connected to the Matrix with regards to the size of the readout on the screen.
I'm also looking at the Lowrance X67C colour sounder, are there any opinions on this unit.
The area i'm fishing will be mainly in the bay with some river work. If you don't like these units please tell me what you think with a budget of around $500.00.
I've looked at the Furuno LS 4100 but have doubts about the screen visibility in sunlight & mounting it on my dash.
I look foward to your comments.

Re: Help With Sounders
I have the Eagle equivalent of the X67C, same unit different badge. This has been the 1st Colour Sounder I have had or used and to be honest have not really appreciated any difference that the colour side of things offer. Sure it gives detail in pretty colours however the structure and detail remains the same, colour or monochrome for the average Joe.
I use this sounder and a Humminbird 727 with Quad Beam in the fresh. The colour sounder is used under power getting from A - B and to have a quick look around areas looking for shows. When something appears fishy on the colour sounder then I use the 727 on the bottom of the electric to get better detail.
For my mind save your $$ and buy the best monochrome sounder you can afford. The higher power, pixels and larger screen will give you far more detail for the same $$ as the colour.
Regards Cameron.

Re: Help With Sounders
I have both the Furuno and a Humminbird 727
Both good but I prefer the Furuno. Shop around, the LS4100 are getting cheaper and cheaper. There is no problem in viewing the Furuno in direct sunlight.
