laptop and GPS sensor and black-box sounder?
Hi, i was hoping to use a laptop and a GPS sensor (often called a gps mouse) with C-MAP or another computer based navigation program.
Has anybody else done this successfully? and if so which nav program do they use and have they had any luck inputting a sounder? It is probably better just to keep the sounder separate anyway, or at least with a separate display but with a feed into the laptop.
I'm sure a decent GPS unit is also required for use at sea.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks, Kanga. [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

There are programs out there doing this called Endeavour and Nobletec.
See this thread on the MB. Not a good add for Raymarine stuff IMHO.

I'm using digiboat software on a laptop with a garmin handheld gps and c map software all seems to work pretty well. I'll be adding a sounder soon but will be looking for a seperate sounder that will feed the laptop. So far the only real issue is it's a bit of a hassle setting everything up as there are leads running everywhere

Re: laptop and GPS sensor and black-box sounder?
Hi
Mate of mine has this all sorted out with Fugawi. And uses it to drive his autopilot. He didn't use C-Map, just scanned in the paper charts (at TJs in Spring Hill) and used them as the backgrounds.
PS He uses a fairly cheap GPS mouse - I think it was about $128 on Ebay - make sure you get one with a sirf III chip set and you'll be fine, no other GPS needed.
Whichway.
