I am installing a wetbox - ducer in my fb hull and want to know if I need to polish the inner surface of the fb of the wet box area to obtain better signal..?
If so, what pad and what max speed should I use? Can ii get away with a single speed drive polisher?
I love a good wetbox, any excuse to introduce 'wetbox' to the conversation.
seriously though, why would you need to polish the FG to install a WETBOX? if it's all air bubble free at the interface there needn't be any problems.
only reason I can think of is so the WET medium bonds to the glass.
if you use industrial sika or silicone, it'll stick like the proverbial sh!t to a blanket.
grand marlin (Pete) is clued up on this stuff - Pete, you there?
I will just add one other thing smelly, if you are really unsure ... throw someone a carton who knows about this stuff and get 'em to have a look and steer you in the right direction.
Cheers
Pete
..... and I just saw your other post re: wetboxes....
Smelly, you are hard to keep up with .... you're gettin round these forums like a stray dog with a tin d!@k
I think I gave you my number in a PM ... call me if you need to.
Gelsec - do u like fishy wetboxes. I like 'em bloody!
I spoke to the pros (up the street) who do this for a living and they always polish their wetbox area - soley for clear signal transportation echo through the hull..I think
I even offered them money to come and visit me but they did not want to know. I had to take my boat to them and pay copius $$ no doubt..
Should I polish for this reason (clear signal transportation echo through the hull)?
What other treatment (of the hull fiberglass) should i consider on the surface before I bond the wet box on?
Hi smelly
I will chase ya round the forums.
Me I wouldnt worry, although I have just fitted a transducer to the floor of a tinnie under the rear thawrt seat and I did give it a light rub with 320 wet and dry purely to clean the surface to get a good bond.
When you say "wetbox" are you fitting it in a fluid filled container or just sticking it straight to the floor of the boat.
cheers
