    i-command gauges

any new e-tec owners out there go for the i-command gauges instead of the standard gauges. i am getting a new e-tec and the dealer does"t know much about them or the price, any information would be good to know.

    Hi RC

The BRP 2006 catalogue has details or try here

    http://www.evinrude.com/en-CA/Access...ategory=Gauges

The Aust web site is useless compared to the Canadian one

The catalogue only describes the I Command Classic and there is also the digital but you can see that on the website

    Hope this helps

What size motor motors are you fitting

    Cheers

Hi RC, I looked into it when I ordered my E-tec 150. It is approx $2000 fully fitted with the digital speedo and tacho. I found that not many dealers have much info on it at present.

Another option is if you have NMEA 2000 spec'd electronics you can buy the engine to NMEA 2000 cable. (You need this cable for I-Command anyway) It plugs into a 4 pin plug close to the ECM. It is around $150 for the cable, then you'll need to buy the interface components, which I would imagine to be around $300. If you're buying a new boat/engine I would have the cable fitted anyway. (I wish I did) It is a mongrel job to fit once the motor is fitted and wired up. Especially in my boat. (575 Outsider) I will eventually be fitting this cable and interfacing it with my Lowrance Plotter/sounder in the new year. If you need the part #, or other info on the I-Command, just PM me.

    Cheers
    Al

thanks Chimo & Al , i am upgrading to a 150 e-tec on my 575 explore & wanted digital gauges not the standard ones. i have lowrance lcx-18 sounder & will have to ring up & find out if it is compatable with nmea 2000 cable. Al hows your 150 going? is it good on fuel & how many hours have you got up? what gauges did you get with it thanks for the info Lee

    Re: i-command gauges

G'day Lee, e-tec's going great. Only done 28 hours so far though. The only problem I had, is it was nearly impossible to hold 3500 rpm. It either wanted to take off to 4000 or die down to 2800. Once it hit 20 hours that problem seemed to vanish, and now you can set it on whatever rpm and it just holds steady. I'm just got the latest software update fitted, but I'm heading back overseas tomorrow for 5 weeks, so I can't test it out.

    Fuel economy is consistantly between 1.5 and 1.6 km/l. Running at 3500 uses about 26-28 lt/h and about 45km/h. 4000 gives me about 30 lt/h and 53 km/h.

I've just got the standard commander gauges, it has the fuel computer inbuilt. It is very accurate as well.

Overall I'm very happy with boat and motor set up.

    Cheers
    Al

    Hi Guys

The fuel use info is interesting on the Etecs
I was looking into fuel flow etc stuff to retro fit but its a bit hard unless I upgrade a fair bit of stuff at the same time so I figure i'll leave it till next time

Apparently to go woith all the new system all you do is "daisy chain" all the guages together. They make it sound soooo easy cf to the olde system.

Heres a link to Lowrance that may be of some use a starting point

    Re: i-command gauges

Hi Lee, just make sure they are the I-Command and NOT the Commander gauges. $500 sounds very cheap for a full digital I-Command system.

Hope it all works out for you.

What engine have you got Chimo?

    Hi Alan

I have a couple of 115 Evinrude Ocean Pros with only 375 hrs on them that run beautifully with 13.25 x 20 Rakers so I guess unless I can talk the boss around I may have them for a while.
