5 MONTHS LATER had an elec (sounder ) expert come around. 582 FURUNO CANT BEAT THE FEELING(VIEW) NOW I CATCH FISH
This is how it now looks having dropped it 10mm.
Will see if this works on the weekend.

Handy to see how deep it is sometimes. Especially in the bay.Originally Posted by flatheadfred

Hi FF,
It seems to depend on conditions, bottom picture drops away pretty quick on a rough day, but on a fairly calm day we can stay with a depth reading to about 25knts in 60-100mtrs.
Anymore than that & depth reading drops out also.

You and I are now at the same point after basically trying the same things with the 600L / P66 units . Nothing wrong with the sounder - it's the hull . My hull has the same deadrise like yours and it's always going to make things difficult with the transducer but hell I will take the better ride anyday![]()
.. Yours is now mounted in the same position as mine . It's the best compromise so far I have found . It will hold bottom at speed in good water but loses it or has bad returns in other than that . A piece of advise though now - take it for a run before the next offshore trip and check where the spray is deflecting towards the motor . You will most likely need a deflector on the inner side at least . Mine was shooting the spray towards the motor intake at speed
.

Thanks Chris that's great advice on the spray.
The weather on the weekend prevented a run. But the forcast Tuesday looks awesome.
I think I'm coming down with something (cough).
Will let you know if it works.
Cheers,
Scott

Sometimes I amaze myself.
Here is another photo. I suspect my problem is further up the hull. I reckon the strake that finishes halfway uo the hull directly infront of the transducer is the problem. I didn't even see that strake...
I think my only option is to drill more holes away from this point to the right between the two strakes.
Cheers.
