Thread: Sounder Reading

    Re: Sounder Reading

Transducer settings my sounder was showing heaps of fish while travelling then none when stopped . found out the transducer needs to be halfway below the bottom and facing 15 degrees downward.make sure there is no rough welds this will cause air bubbles sending your sounder haywire.also if still playing up you can put it on the floor inside your hull make a donut of silastic and push transducer into it if it works well and good, if not its easy to pull off silastic , from "humminbird reps mouth" coop

    Coop,

Dont know about the donut theory. That air between the ducer and the hull doesn't sound right? Set mine on a slab of silicoln and reads well at all speeds.

    Re: Sounder Reading

Have just purchased the X515 CDF and am wondering what sensitivity levels people are running on similar units. The one run I have done to test the install required me to be down to about 60% to get rid of most of the clutter.

I think the installation is fine held bottom up to 28 knots in 25 metres of water.

    Any help or suggestions appreciated.

    Re: Sounder Reading

Hey guys, I took these sounder pics at Mud Island. Can anyone please give me their opinon on what these show. I'll say what I think, but im not really sure, so thats why im asking.

Pics 1 & 2 - Mulitple Large fish on the bottom.

Pics 3 & 4 - Single large fish on the bottom.

Pic 5 - school of bait on bottom with a few larger fish above.

Any advice would be much apreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: Sounder Reading

they are definately echo's ST, but as for the size of the fish, it's really hard to tell. i'm assuming you were anchored when you took these pics.

if so.a small fish can still make those trails if sitting under the transducer

last one is clearely obvious. bait school on the bottom with a few fish sitting midwater.

    Thanks Local Guy,

I was drifting, but wind was very light, so was only drifting very slowly.

    Re: Sounder Reading

Well i finally got out fishing yesterday and this time as i said in previous posts i lowered my transducer 1 click down.

Made such a difference to echo's all for the better, unlike my other post where i got the trailing fish arch, this time i got the classic straight line, like you will see in other peoples post. sorry didn't get any pics.

if anyone requires pictures of my transducer setup, let me know.

Y-Not with the clutter your getting, after going out in my boat yesterday i would have to say that even though you have to back your sensativity down to 60%, thats no bad. when i was trolling around yesterday the same island i had my sensativity at 80% and as soon as i turned the corner of an island the sounder picture would fill up with c**p, yet there water looked clear. Also, when i went back to my shallow spot at only 10m. it was even worse. even though i could see the bottom easilly enough, there was obviously enough sedament in the water to clog up the screen...

If you are fishing inside the bay down in brisbane and though the water looks clear, the sounder is obvioulsy picking up the sediment of teh bay and showing it on the screen... You still get good readings at 60%. remember the big fish show us at RED .

hope this puts your mind at ease

    Re: Sounder Reading

    Hey Lads,

I took this pic on saturday morning, still did not get a thing that was a keeper, they seem to be down there, must be doing something wrong.

I was chasing Snaps fishing light, i used one rod with squid patternose, and one with diver whitting 1m leader.

God only knows maybe they were not hungry.

I meant to get to bribe of the M&G but i was to late by the time i got there so i just went out to Shallow T by myself.

    Cheers,

L/G, after reading a few posts on the ducer, i went out and had a look at mine, think its tad to high, and not on an angle, more or less straight, a few pics on how it should look would be great
