blackened, where u stationary when you took these pics.
if so i would say taht you have bait sitting just off the bottom and it's not moving from underneith the boat... in your second pic, same thing, but 2 bait schools.
i would also adjust the colour on your sounder as it appears you have too much red.
all i can think of is you have your gain set way too high. possibly the thick red line your experiencing at 8m is just a 2nd bottom pic, you said you were over gravel... Have a look at Wahoo's post number #321 in this thread. that appears to be setup perfectly as you can make out the hard bottom, but underneith appears blotchy. You will also see the same in my pics with my Lowrance on post number #327 which is also of a cockly bottom.
send Timiboy (spelling) a PM... i setup his Furuno sounder a few weeks back when i was in Brisbane, he might be able to give u the settings from his unit.
That looks awfully like one of our grunter and fingermark spots at Coorooman on your sounder in post 330... have you caught much there lately? ...a young bloke from the park knocked off the best jack I have seen down there in line with the last mangrove on that mudbank last week
yeah, that was taken at the first cockle bed heading up the creek turning right at the junction.. if memory serves me correctly...
that pic was taken about 4 weeks after the 2nd rocky flood this year, hence all the crap in the water shown on the sounder.
i haven't done much fishing in the creek, i only go there when i'm desperate and need to take the boat out when offshore has been ordinary for more than 4 weeks straight .
i'm still learning the 'fishing in a boat thing areas' around the yeppoon region. feel free to pm me where to go, what bait, rigs, tides, times, etc
L G
I know that spot and when the grunter run around the full moon it can produce a few quality fish...anytime you are going to go fishing email me and I'll give you the current where when and what .... I am always on the water and I have a very good grapevine... by the way all of you guys and sounders have shown this old bugger some things I thought I knew but now I do, thanks
Scott
Hey guys, I just bought a Lowrance x86 today brand new for $200 today from BCF. When I was looking at sounders I have seen that some of them have a feature that changes the display into a 'ring' that has lines moving around the outside. What does this show, and how do you interpret it?
I am hoping to take the new toy out on Sun, but dont really have any idea where to try. I was thinking of putting in at Nudgee and heading over to the wreck of the "Mt Elliot" then either Frances Channel or St Helena/Mud Island.
ok. that Ring you are referring to is "real time data".
this is how you interperate it....
The ring has units of measurements around the outside... this is depth.
now to read the depth look for where the colour turns solid and depending on it's thickness will determine the tipe of bottom underneith you.
usually the top couple of metres is just surface clutter, but what you'll find is every now and again there will be an echo between the surface and bottom which will show up as a solid line or lighter greyscale line between the surface and the bottom. You could represent this as a fish if you so wish, but in this view it could be just about anything.
this same ring is represented as a vertical bar in your main sonar page and is then transfered as "history" on your screen which is where we can see bommies, fish arches and other fishy stuff displayed in 2D representation on the screen as seen the the above pics. you can see this bar reprsented in my post #327... bottom pic shows anchor going down to the floor.
i hope you can understand that. It's much easier orally explaining this to someone.
i don't think you really would as it's not really practical.
with the history you get shown a 2d representation of the bottom, you can also use that information to go back to a point. with the ring it would really only be practical for depth at that exact time, but won't help to tell u exactly what you've just travelled over.
I have pretty much the worst sounder on the market i think (came with the boat)
It tells me the main things i need to know i guess (depth and contour) so if it can show me bait and fish then that is an added bonus, but i dont really expect much of it.
Got some photos of a fairly typical show of what i figure are schools of bait. Probably only 2 shots that show what i would call as fish.
Would be interested to see what you guys who know what your talking about, get from these shots.
i think your spot on plaztix. also with your sounder it appears that when u get a hard bottom you get more "white" under the bottom line. if that makes sense.
i'll save some pics and show u what a school of bait looks like on a colour sounder as well as single fish. u migth want to upgrade sounders after that .lol.
Yes looks awesome. Thanks Local Guy for rubbing it in.
If i had a spare $800 + i would be straight on the web to fishon. But for now i like the pictures looking like someone made them out of lego or even besser block size pixels.
Correct me if i'm wrong but those partial arches on your sounder shots are because the transducer is on an angle. Yes?
If i was to upgrade, do you think that colour is a necessity? i know that they look pretty but is a good quality mono colour (black and white doesn't sound right) gonna give me almost as much detail, just not with the obvious change in density that the colours show?
