Thread: Sounder Reading

    Local_Guy,

thanks appreciate the time and effort, interesting sounding underneath is soft which is pretty clear and a thin crust stands out pretty well.

Learnt a couple of tricks I might help you with, wind your gain up till it starts to speckle, then wind it back just a little. also make sure that your ping response rate is configured to be high.

    Regards
    Honda.

    Re: Sounder Reading

yeah honda. i was messing with that. unfortunately when i turned it up to even 76% sensativity that clutter you see on the screen would become twice as bad. i had to settle with how you see it there.. trust me, the water was preety shocking which i know would have resulted in the rubbish the sounder was picking up.

honda.... do you run hyperscroll on your unit? at the moment i have my ping speed at 100%, but i haven't touched the hyperscroll setting.

honestly i wasn't 100% happy with the readings i was getting, but i blame that on the water condition and the need for me to play around with more of the settings... though before i turned the "surface clairty" setting to Low, all my screen was displaying was clutter the whole way down to the bottom.

overall i couldn't be happier with the unit.

also about the 2 pictures you can see above.

the top picture is travelling over the bottom at about 7 - 10kts.

the bottom picture is the same pinnicle as seen in the top picture, but we are anchored ontop of it at this stage. probably travelling at about 2 kts.

I have the lms525 whish is the same sounder as yours except it has an external antenna(GPS) and paddle wheel(water speed) and i was wondering if you tinkered with any of the sonar settings at all. I have only had my boat and sounder for a week and still trying to tweak them as best as i could.
    Cheers Mate

I have a picture here from a mates Lowrance.. it is of red fish and GT's and the odd mack ..they were on a lump at north gutter here off Darwin

    Local_Guy,

The picture is pretty good, I have noticed on a couple of the boats I have been on with slightly older model lowrance (335) that the gain needs to be up in the 90's where as my unit x107cdf the gain can be around the 75-80 mark.

Hyperscroll apparently is automatic on my unit, but still have to wind it back sometimes to get a good picture at speed.

have found the split screen to be good as well, use the split zoom and the split 200/50 when offshore over marks have found the difference in what is displayed to be be very good.

2rods, picture is showing the gain up a bit, but some times it helps.

    Regards

    Honda.

    Re: Sounder Reading

wonder if we might get a section on the chat board especially for this type of thread? I think it would be a real bonus for those of us, who have not a lot of information of the actual information they are looking at on their sounders.

    Hello iank,
Excellent work with the sounder pictures, well illustrated. I use a lowrance Lms-334c and it shows exactly how your model does. I find using a quality colour unit make the difference when interpreting what your seeing on the screen.

    Re: Sounder Reading

went out today and for some stupid reason i didn't take a few pics of what i was seeing... but i think it was a very thick(still bushy) tree laying on it's side... massive blob of red and yellow off the bottom on the sounder from 4m upto 2m. same area had big blobs of red yellow mid water, thinking it could have been a school of very large fish.

    Re: Sounder Reading

Love this thread Anyone got a pic of a hard & soft bottom on a Furuno 585 or 620? Also what are you prefered settings ie colourline etc Would love to see some of the fish on these pics under the Boat too, but really trying to identify what I'm seeing on the sounder & how good/ what type the ground is.

    G'day

Was at peel this morning, great shows........ but nothing hungry. Fisheries ladies said it was the same story everywhere.

Can anyone interprate this for me?

I've just noticed on these pics as i've gotten home..... I was reading the bottom to be hard - gravel and rubble at what the depth says, but it's showing on the 8M line, but sounder reading 6.2..... what gives?

Rhys, T1, I know you guys have the same unit. Any feedback?

    Dave
