yeah, in the last pic you can kinda make out how it's angled down with the back part closest to the ground.

basically what will happen if it's the other way around is you'll get partial or 1/2 fish arches. if you look back a few pages to find another thread of mine where i have detailed some screenshots you will see a load of partial fish arches. that is what happens when the transducer isn't positioned correctly..... well with my sounder anyway.

my sounder now shows a very good line when fish are about. i'll get some more shots next time i'm on the water.

this was a school of bait that went under my boat. the fish were fuseilers (spelling)

sorry for image quality, was taken on my phone, not SD card.

glxr. the 2nd pic looks like you have a larger pic sitting above a school of fish on the bottom.

wahoo. i would think your first pic is of a dense school of bait sitting off the bottom. looks like a very hard rocky bottom your over.

2nd pic looks like rocks. possibly coral growth. there are fish there, but they don't look huge. definately sitting right on the bottom.

i'm not hugely familiar with the Furuno sounders unless i'm physically at the machine, but can you adjust the colour line to get a little more bottom detail in your pics, or speed up the speed at which the screen is scrolling... thats probably the biggest thing you can do to help with defining what is underneith you. checkout bluefin's pics in post #415

    Daz,

Scroll speed looks a bit quick to me. Find a good show on the sounder, mark it on the gps then slow the scroll rate down and switch to auto. Go back over the same ground and check the difference out. Then go over it again and play with the color erase, clutter and gain settings. Probably take a while to get a good result but well worth the effort.
    Try these

    Pic advance 1/2
Color erase 10% up to 15mtrs and 20% over that depth
    Smoothing on
    TX rate 10
    Interference auto
    Clutter 30%

Hopefully that will help. If it doesn't, I guess i will have to come to cairns to set it up for you
