Thread: Sounder Reading

    Re: Sounder Reading

Howdy fullas, great site my question is does anyone have a fcv585 with a1kw transom mount (TM 258) and if so what is the max depth you can see and fish. The hapuka/blue eye country down here is 180-280 fathom and we are struggling with the 600w ducer, mounting a through hull on my boat (233edencraft) will be difficult cause its got diesel inboard and access is tight. thanks

siegfried if you do a search on the fcv 585 I'm sure you will find what your after.

I'm pretty sure this was talked about not long ago

    Geday siegfriad,
    snelly1971 fishes similar depths ( of Tasmania ) with a 585 & 1` Kw transducer .

I'm pretty sure he has some photos & info on this post .
You could also do a search on his Offshore Fishing Reports , & the Boating section .

Oh got!!! how is this possible?
You can see even your fishing line!!!
    I do something wrong.
Before 2 months i install in my boat the Furuno fcv585 with TM258 transducer
and i am not satisfy.Iknow maybe is the transducer but that kind of pictures you
    can have is amazing!!!
I see that your gain is in auto mode.Is that better?
I usually fish from 20-250 fathoms and my Fish finder before (Raymarine ds500x)
    was better than this.
No no no i know Furuno is one of the best but what is wrong?
Even after 40 fathoms loose bottom when i cruise 20-22 konts.

    Re: Sounder Reading

paspy sounds like your furuno isn't in the water far enough. try dropping it another 1 cm and see how that goes.

also, turn the speed up so it's running at about 4/1. as for gain, they are a good sounder and auto gain should do, but if you adjust it correctly you should be able to make out a soft bottom to a hard bottom... easiest way to set this is to go over a bottom you know is soft, then over a bottom you know is hard, then you will know what your seeing on your sounder when your travelling.

    hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice i know after talking to you guys i will set it up perfect.
I will drop it a little lower and i will let you know.

    Re: Sounder Reading

Paspy, I think your transducer may be to close to the centreline and your picking up aerated water , also the transom mount jobs are not as streamlined as say alowrance skimmer type and arent really designed for high speed. If u move it out you may have more luck but I think you will struggle at speed, good luck mate.

like siegfied said.. i was about to say the same thing.

alternatively, get a bracket made up and put that over your transducer, hopefully this will help your probs also.

    Re: Sounder Reading

Thanks a lot but think that in the same position was my older one (Raymarine DS500X) and i had no problem travelling with 20-22 knots showing bottom till 90 meters.
Ok the old one was not so huge.
My first idea was to install the M260 inhull one and as i see know i had to go for it.
The funny think is that till 40-50 meters i can catch the bottom runing 27 knots but deeper no way.

    Furuno 620 plastic shots

Here is a couple of pics I took today of the sounder. One shows a 3inch plastic with 1/4 jighead decending to the bottom. The other one shows a 4inch plastic with a 3/8th jig head hitting a snapper on the head. The snapper was 60cms. The fish at the bottom of the screen turned out to be grassies of which 6 ranging from 35cms to 48cms were caught. The furuno amazes me still everytime i turn it on.

    Local Guy,

It was about two seconds after that shot that I got smashed. Amazing what the furuno can do. Next time in am going to drop two differently weighted jig heads at the same time to see the difference in fall rate and angle.
