You would have to spend a few more dollars to get a GPS with a backmap. I have a basic Magellan Explorist 100 and I find it accurate and reliable. Got it on special at k-mart for $180. Worked a treat travelling around Monduran Dam at night. Horses for courses I guess!

There is so many to choose from the Garmin etrex is good in price on ebay...Then u have all the others like eTrex Camo, eTrex Summit, eTrex Venture, eTrex Vista, eTrex Legend,
eTrex Legend C, eTrex Vista C...

Plus the 72 76 and so on...

I know price is a big factor as-well but still it makes it bloody heard to get the one u want...

Most of them u can pick up a good buy on ebay but it still comes down which one to buy...

I have a ifinder H2o That i have had for 3 years now and can not fault it one bit. Have always used in in the tinny around the creeks and open ocean i always keep it in the glove box if something happens to the main system. I don't have the mapping card installed.

I wonder how much deeper the ocean would be without sponges

Just make sure what you buy on ebay is what you thing it is with regard specific models as some GPSMAP 76 models have been discontinued.

With package deals from some retailers inlcuding mapping etc ebay prices can be a bit "outdated" at times.

I now you budget is only up to $350 but if you want maps (this will cost you another $329) you can't go passed the eTrex Vista Cx. It has mapping which we use all the time on the road.

If you don't want maps then any of the 72, 76 models would do.

Also try this link that allows you to compare the Garmin GPS units in a table.

had the apelco gps2 for about 6 yrs it was abeauty as wellbut wanted to
upgrade.the lowrance has a slot for sd and mmc cards so mapping is a goer if u want personally i prefer just the plotter. got it at the mart with the a out front for 299. i think that warehouse at tingalpa next to crawfords would match price you would have to check.if you want to know a little more give us acall 0416 180 766.

About a year ago I bought a GPSMAP76 off Ebay from the states for AU$250 after freight delivered to my door. Took about a week and a half. Identical to what is on sale here and has the 8mb mapping memory capacity.
Also bought a generic neoprene case from that Garmin dealer on Ipswich road at Annerlly (spell?) for $20. My tight arse tirade continued, avoiding the genuine Garmin $60 (they've gotta be kidding!) stand and got a mobile phone car bracket from CuperSheap for $15!
While we're on it would anyone with a Garmin Blue Chart East Coast disc (cards no good for handhelds) be willing to negotiate a deal to copy to my unit?

Its a pian (I know) as I went over them a 1000000000 times before deciding on the eTrex Vista Cx

    Try these sites

http://www.garmin.com/outdoor/compare.jsp This will compare all the Garmin side by side.

http://gpsinformation.net/ This site has it all, reviews software/ hardware

Basically it comes to maps or no maps but I also like a good track logging as I upload them to my pc to view my fishing tracks on Mapsource (I have City Navigator).

    Good luck
