LEAVING FROM BRIBIE
i want to target large cobia. if any one can produce a cobia on the day NO COST
Try the beacons from the bulwer north, you could use livies caught at any of these beacons, but get yourself some sand crabs and let one of them loose at the base especially the line up towards spitfire banks. and then hang on
NEWCOMER TO THIS fishing using crabs ???
how would i bait up with the crabs
i was told you need to cut the legs off ??? and others said to cut the legs in half ???
how would you do it ???
Have a few options.
1. use the whole crab
2. use half
3. use the rear legs , not the claw on a single.
With the full and half leave the legs on , or get two baits off the one crab.
Depending on depth and current, single paternoster with 1m drooper, d.r., or a what i call a sliding paternoster.( hook-1.5m leader-brass ring-main line---tear drop sinker with 1m double onto another brass ring. the main line is passed through this ring so the main line can slide through the ring, the other ring acts as a stopper, if y ou get what i mean.
I only use single 6-7/0 crabs. or two hook snell on livies .
hope ou understood all that.
40kg cobia from the 4 beacons on friday

Webby thats me Sun 19th,looking for a similar catch.
By the 4 beacons do you mean the ones north of Bulwer or the 4 north of Spitfire Banks.?
Snappa let us know how you go.Think i'll stick with livies and pillies.
Cheers Craig
webby
stupid me
raced off to morgans to buy bait for wednesday. the
trouble is that i got home and realised i had bought COOKED ones.
do you think it will matter.
any way if they dont play the game, at least i can eat them out on the boat with fresh bread rolls
Striker, The 4 beacons are the first ones you come to after you pass the measure mile , due s/e of the middle banks.
Snappa , dont know never tried cooked ones, supossed the flashy red colour might attract them just as welll, if not you have lunch
If your going to have a goo at them, run a double to the hook, even though they dont have teeth, they have a mouth like to rasp files, and if lucky on hook, and during the play and i mean play, they can cut trhough the mono, and use 25kg or better. hope youve got a strong back and arms.
Best of Luck

Locked in Webby a bit further south than I was looking ,but not out of reach .Sundays the day,Snappa you never know till you have a go, a squirt of lemon pinch of salt could cause a freenzy, good luck.
