Bundaberg fishing Info - new member
Hi guys, my first posting here and my first time to Bundaberg to fish with the family in a week. I was hopeing someone would be able to give me so info on fishing the area, both in the Burnett river and offshore. All the fishing write ups in the mags talk about lots of spots but they are all called local names and of course not on any charts . If any one could help me do the hunter gatherer thing so I can notch up the brownie points I would be very gratefull.
Thanks

Re: Bundaberg fishing Info - new member
Welcome to Bundy, its a great spot for fishing with lots of options.
The Burnett can be good for bream and the whiting and flatties are moving now too (plus many other critters).
Don't rule out the Elliot River also, not far from the Burnett (south) and the Kolan (just to the north).
How far do you want to go offshore?? there are plenty of options close and far out?
What are the local names you have heard, a few here could help you out there also?
cheers

Re: Bundaberg fishing Info - new member
Hi Bundy Bandit, thanks for the reply. I am looking forward to next week very much. Haven't been to Bundy for 10years since our diving days at Bargara. Things would have changed alot on doubt. The local name are five degree, fifteen mile, southern gutter, northern gutter, four mile, two mile, evens patch, the plane wreck? these are all talked about in mag writeups but don't say where they are. My gut does not take to sea well so anything close is probally the go unless the conditions are very good. We are staying right on the Burnett river so it is easy to fish but had intended to look at the others if time permited. By the way do you know where Corser Street is at Burnett Heads, that is where we are staying and I have street maps of the area that the agents sent by the street names are not on it - very helpfull!. If you are going to be out on the water next week we might see you, you won't miss my square brick looking boat- Webster Twinfisher cat called Jo-Ara
Thanks again

Re: Bundaberg fishing Info - new member
Thanks Paul for the info on the spots. Much appreciated.
I just hope the weather is good enough to be able to check them out! and catch a fish or two would be nice also. It seems the wind just does not want to stop blowing at least at weekends anyway.
I have the print out on the Cochrane Artifical Reef, is the fishing any good there??. Out of these spots (or any others you wish to share) which would you put on the top of the list to try first.
To go to the Artifical reef it seems ( from the mags) most go via the Elliott river mouth. How tricky is the bar to get through? ???
Sorry for all the questions, Thanks again
John
PS: If you could organise the fish to be on the bite next week, that would also be appreciated.
PSS: and make sure the sea is calm, thats important!

Re: Bundaberg fishing Info - new member
The best spot always depends on the weather.
I can't speak for the outside spots because the Cochrane, the 2 mile and 4 mile are about my limit, but one of them always seems to produce reasonable fish and only a short run back if the weather turns ugly.
The mouth of the Elliot isn't too bad although a little tricky at the bottom end of the tide. Just one look at low tide shows you the channel which heads out a little then off to the north east, just don't get tricked by the colour of the outgoing water, it can hide the sandbanks. (got marks for it if you really want them to guide you out.)
The book you can get from the DPI (that's where I work), drop in on a weekday, they will have a copy.
Corser Street directions - head through Bundaberg and follow the signs to Burnett Heads/Port, once you have gone through a big roundabout with cane fields on most sides (one way to Bargara and the other to Port) you will get back into the 100 km/hr zone, follow this road out to the port, take the 4th road on your left called Geary St and Corser is first on your right. If you get to the Bulk Sugar Sheds, you've gone too far.
cheers have a good time and let me know how you go
