Hopefully if the wind holds Cheech and i are planning a run tonight for some nice bay snapper, if it blows i suppose we will try for a bream or 2.

The Wind was all over the place today, first thing in the morning when we left Wello Point the wind wa not even around, as soon as we got to Peel it started up and was hitting atleast 15Knts, from there we journey over to Green Island and the wind was not too bad untill we got there, then it was blowing like 15-20Knts, then on the way back to the end of the lights at Wello Point, the wind dropped off again, but not even an hour later it picked up again.
I would say you could be in for a wiered night, but i do hope you go out and catch a lot of fish :0
Cheers,
David.
David,
You were pretty right about the wind. It did not behave. Either did the fish.
We headed over to the other side of the bay with no wind just on dark and expected a north east, or even east with just some north. This is what everyone forecast as well.
What we got had no hint of anything east. Just kept blowing from the west and got stronger and stronger. With the forecast of it being worse today, we decided against an overnighter (even though it was not planned, we nearly did one just because the conditions were that bad) and headed back to Mud Island (for shelter) at around 10.00pm.
Took an hour and a half to go the 17K from Morton to Mud. Short, sharp and really horrible.
Just a note for those that think about pushing the limits in small boats,,,, this was the bay, and we were in a 5.5m glass boat. And it was still very very bad.
Anyway, we finally got to Mud. Fished for another couple of hours, realised we were bloody nongers to be out in the middle of the night, cold, battered, and almost fishless, and still trying to catch a feed when the fish were just not interested.
And I snapped one of my snapper rods on a really big fish that nearly spooled me.
And like Matt said,,,, we still had fun.. go figure.
Cheech
Cheech, I agree on that wind, we had a rough ride back as well. reports seem to conflict from up and down the coast, shows the importance of getting your local area report correct, and we have a report that covers 200km roughly its just bloody useless imo.
good luck
we didn’t really what to go fishing, but get some night navigation practice and our boat handling skills up to scratch…….wind? what wind…..
