Don't be baggin brownies as his info is directly from the bureau. Which in their disclaimer states that wind speed can be up to 40% more than forecasted. So the 10 -15 can be up to 15 to 20 knots. Its only a guide and if the wind on the day feels more like 15 to 20 and your in a 3.5m tinny then its best to err on the side of caution before travelling across the bay.

Anyone can do that. Here Micks weather predictions for the day. 6 meter swell and 10 knot winds. Give or take 20 meters on the swell prediction and 50 knots on my wind prediction.
Markpeta, caught any coral trout from land lately? Yeah, I didn't think so. How long do you wait in traffic in the south east these days? Still 6 weeks for a loaf of bread and a litre of milk? Heehee, just stirring.....

spot on Andrew. There ain't no such thing as 'Brownies forecast' it is simply a direct link to the BOM South coastal waters forecast.

Anyway, still lookin good for Sat so I'll be out there in the arvo. Reckon it might just be busy too ???

Well I was determined to get out the GC Seaway Friday morning inspite of anything...
Chickened out in the pitch black as the swell was enough to worry me and sat and waited for sun up. When I did go out it was quite lumpy and whitecaps. Got to the 18's and when the Q1 tower dissapeared in the waves I decided I'd had enough.
Not much of a fish I was just falling allover the shop... THat was my "serious Snapper morning..."

interesting, the wave riders at the Gold Coast, Caloundra, Mooloolaba and even off Straddie look OK to me. I did see a reading of 25 knots at Cape Moreton at 7 am this morning though.

I can't see the system on the charts that is going to be generating this increasing swell. No big low close by???

Anyway, reckon it still looks OK to me.

    Spiro,

main aim is first knobby of the season. Try to get a late season mackerel or cobia during the early arvo too.

I plan to be around the 5 mile to 9 mile area off Caloundra. I'll be in my 4.5 m yellow CC with ausfish sticker.

Will have the radio on VHF 77, call sign Odyssea.

    Might see you out there.

Re: Great weather coming up for the long weekend

Yeah Jeremy I was probably a wuzz.
I've got a steep Vee hull halfcabin that will pitch and roll in a sideways swell so I want to see them coming. Pitch black at 5am with rain.

I've been out a lot lately but this morning was not great.
Felt better as i came in towards the seaway so I'm not sure if the wavebouy is a fair indicator of what's out further. I just can't get my head around the graph as opposed to what I find in reality. There were quite a few large sets coming through that belted me around so add the wind that picked up and the rain and waves breaking around me and I'd had enough, maybe I'll get more used to that sort of stuff but I was catching the odd surf wave in and finally put the Epirp in my pocket.
I averaged about 7knots coming back as anymore and I'd risk nosediving off the swell or being pushed sideways down the face. Its probably great experience and the guys who exit the Tweed and Currumbin would just shrug it off as normal. Saw a guy 10k's out there in an open tinny and a raincoat standing up and merrily fishing away.

Had a look at the sea a few hours ago and there were no whitecaps and definitely flatter. Love to hit the 36's but now I'm not sure when??

Think it was more like a 4M Seajay rather than an OMC tube construction boat. Yes certainly thought of Rob when I saw the yellow raincoat but doesn't rob have a towbar on the boat to attach to the punt that carries all the fish??

Was a long way out making the call, but looks like Seabreeze had it pretty close.

You still get variations as expected with any prediction, but I have found the model they use to be pretty accurate for the bay.
