Been away all week up the coast with winds that would blow a dog off a patio, but looks like its going to settle for a sunday trip. Not sure if we'll be in but will look at it more tonight and tomorrow and make a call. sounds like a good day with all the crews heading out.

Hope you guys leave a couple of snappers out there.....just in case a mid week trip comes about.
I'd be there for sure, but have promised to take the young bloke to the V8 Supercars....a promise is a promise.
Have fun.... & to the best 'knobby donger' the spoils.
Cheers

Pete,
I think I might try the Northern ramp this time - I seem to alternative between north and south. Parking can be hard at the south.
Can't give away too many secrets as to time (sshh it's a secret) but we'll be on the water at 3:00amish I'd say.
So are you heading north now ?
Whats the general vicinity that you guys are fishing? North, South, somewhere in between? I haven't been out there before and looks like a lot of territory on the chart. Would be good to catch up with some ausfishers on the water. Also, what kind of km's do you generally do in a day? Under 250?
Cheers,
Matt.
well it was one last desision change and i guess i'll see you all out at the banks
woooooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooo
Matt,
Not to put a dampener on it all, but I will,,,, I would not just look at the forecast, but also the leadup. Yes it is forecast for low winds and a bit under 2m of swell, then easing, but at the time we will be heading out it will be dark, and heading into that 2m swell and 45km offshore. That will be pretty uncomfortable for 1.5 - 2 hours in any boat. What sort of cruising speed do you have in those conditions? It is about 45k out here, but that is as the crow flies.
For your first trip out you may be better off waiting a couple of days as it is really looking great early in the week.
Do you have all the legal gear?
You may want to consider Murphys first off. At least as an alternative as a plan B after you head out.
If I am wrong, then GO FOR IT and ingore. But you would not get me out there in a pink fit in a 4.75 tinny in that forecast in the middle of the night. Once you get out there then the run home and the dropping conditions look good. But you have to get there safely first. But 24 hours later would be a differnt story.
If you ignore this post, then fine, but just do not head out alone. There is safety in numbers.
Sorry to be a downer. I just thought I had to comment as nobody else had. The last thing any of us what is for you to become a statistic.
Cheech
Crew all organised ... me , Cheech (Craig) and Johno. Were up for the challenge
We will be fishing the northern end of the banks, but probably away from the rest of you We won't be targeting those areas with 4-6kg snapper, we will be at some special spots where the 6-10kg models hang out
Take your digi cameras. I'll probably do a write up for September B&B on the trip/Ausfish Barwon Banks Snapper Challenge. If you want to send me some photos, i'll try and get them into the mag.
Looking forward to it ... should be fun
Mark
Thanks Cheech Done the run out in the dark a few times now and have been out to deep tempest and such enough times in less than good conditions. Done mooloolabah in 25knots+ (last tuna comp when it was cancelled) and slow speed and sensibility prevails. Epirb, flares, radios etc and 80 ponies of four stroke on the back lets you power out of hairy situations when you need to. Been there and done that in the 40ft'ers and thought everyone in anything less were crazy so I know where your coming from but it's actually quite safe when you know what the boat is and isn't capable of. It's a big 4.75 metres too As you say, safety in numbers as I'll have another 5m boat following me out. 45 clicks is np (looked further than that).
Thanks for caring
Matt.
