Anyone know of an offfshore fishing club around Palm Beach end of Gold Coast?
Have my own boat. Go regularly (mainly off Tweed). Know no one else that fishes offshore.

having any luck?
There's no club per say, but there's quiet a few of us that fish down that way & live locally. Myself included.
Doing OK with the Parrot and Squire. Don't keep em under 35cm. Mack Tuna love me. Not much in the big stuff this winter. My goal is to land a Wahoo this season. Keep losing them. Haven't been out fro a few weeks dus to the Northerlies - hate that short chop.Originally Posted by fishingnottaken

That is why I posted this. Seems strange that there is no club - either official or casual - in this area. Don't know too many fishos.Originally Posted by Heath
I know there is a Burleigh fishing club, a currumbin RSL club and a Twin Towns club but they don't go offshore. Guy at Tweed club got all excited when I enquired about joining because I had a boat.
I read your articles and enjoy B & B by the way.

A few years ago the Currumbin RSL used to go offshore I think.
If you see a big white thing called "Aquaholic " come and say G'day.

Between 1939 and 1945?
While you're there, would appreciate advice as to where is a good place to get live bait?
I know Kirra reef but it's basically a rock now with all the sand. The sand pumping jetty at tweed is patchy and a hassle by yourself with the drift and surge around the pilons and palmie is generally too far as I usually launch at Tweed due to the Currumbin bar.
Brian
Currumbin up until about 4 years ago, used to run a local offshore comp.
Mate, we're in the same situation. Kirra reef is gone. I was there on Saturday and there is nothing left, it is all sand.
Sand pumping jetty would be your best bet. I think we'll be frequenting Palmy bait grounds this summer for our livies. I launch out of currumbin during summer, that is if there is a chanel for me to get through.

I will try them again at RSL.
Re live bait, I have heard guys on the radio catching slimys and yellowtail off cook but I'll be damned if I can find any. How about the entrance to the boat harbour off twintowns? Seems like a likely place for Yakkas. - will check it out.
I'm thinking of installing wheels under my boat for the currumbin bar this summer. Wish they could dredge it without damaging the surf break. By the look of it there will be a few boats going over if we don't get a good flush thru the channel. Had to tow a broken down boat across it last summer with two older guys on board and it scared the pants off me- thankfully it was high tide. Wouldn't do it now.
Did you see what the council have done to the ramp at throwers drive bridge next to the school?
They have narrowed it to one boat width. It was already a wait during Mackerel season. Can't wait until I launch there in December
