Myself, Canoedle and Wally are heading down Jumpinpin for an overnight camp and fishing expedition. Never been down that way camping, so heres hoping the rain doesn't come down too hard. If you see the "Stinky Lynx" a swag and two small domes down that way, swing by for a beer and some cheer
Oh Lordy you boys were right. Eaten alive does not describe the torment. Fishing not great, but got a few and the crab traps misfired. Only one huge Crab, but it was jenny, so no luck. Worked out that there is no point camping for just one night. One night or 5 nights, the mess at the end of the trip is just the same.
Forecasts were all wrong though..... again. Not a drop of rain.
Damn, I'm still scratching. Need to get some better repellant me thinks. Never seen mozzies and sand flies that thick in a dozen trips to Frazer (both sides) very nasty.
BUSHMAN'S brand is the best you can buy here in Australia - it has the highest concentration of DEET of any commercially available insect repellant here in Australia. I would not be putting it on an infant's skin though, and obviously like all insect repellants, keep it away from your bait and tackle as it will also be the best repellant for fish. I use latex gloves to apply it. then take my gloves off and your hands are clean with no residual smell.
I also find burning a mosquito coil in close proximity really helpfull too - available from coles even.
There are also little battery operated device you clip onto your clothing (about the size of a key ring). When turned on, it emits a high pitched / high freq noise only just detectable to us, but I have not used mine yet so cant comment. I don't imagine it would be too much fun for your pooch though if you take him/her fishing....
