Bait for Tangalooma Jetty and Rig

Hey i just came back from tangalooma yesterday and i caught 27 fish on prawns and bread in 24 hours of staight fishing (5 packs prawns, 1 loaf bread). All too small . Any tips to get the bigger fish that lurk down the bottom for next time??

Bread worked the best with the prawns just feeding the fish.

My rig looked like this in primitive form:

Whats a better rig for this aplication and when to go. I've been fishing there for nigh on 6 years for a week every year... (I should know stuff huh??)

Hook, line, that's all you need mate. The bread is the right way to go, but you need to get the fish feeding first, go to the area on the landward side of the gangways and use a berley of bread, tuna oil and water to get them feeding closer to the surface, then use bread (not too big a piece or they'll only nip at it) tied to a smallish suicide hook, about a size 2 or 4, cast into the feeding fish, give a bit of free line and then hold on! I've caught bream over 40cm using this method off the jetty, as well as a few little blue puller and numerous bloody butter bream. It takes a bit of getting used to and is very hard going in the wind, but you should definitely pull a few fish. Good luck and PM me if you need any more advice about the area, I've been going there for years and it is a great place to fish. Just be repsonsible in how many fish you keep.

Hey blisten, yeah mate, thats not a bad rig but over the past 21 years ive been going to Tangalooma, i own a unit over there too and go for one week per year, it really depends on the time ofht eyear, but if youve just come back, id say the smaller fish are hanging around. I usually use a dough mic with cheese and flour and water, it works the best, or even yqbbies, they go crazy over yabbies because you cant get them over there. Mate, the mistake alot of people make is in the bait, fresh is always best and usually i use terries bait which gets delivered to my bait shop on wednesday, Ive caught so many different species over there, from trevally to sharks, massive bream, fingermark bream, ####ing yackas, even big squire off the reef. Ive found over there, you must fish sun up and sun down, thats it, every other time during the day is crap, the water is too clear and the fish get spooked easy. So i hope this has helped you mate, cause moreton is an untapped resource for fisherman.
