    Rockhampton Fishing

I've got to spend two weeks in Rocky in early September for work and was thinking of packing the plastics toys for some after hours fun.

Is there anyone from Rocky on Ausfish that can give me a few pointers? Not after your special spot X, but just somewhere that is easy to reach from town and might produce something.

Im not from Rocky but if you watch the WIN 9 news a guy called Pilly gives out good tips every friday night. The salmon are right up in the town reaches at present and the odd barra have started to get caught just down from the barrage.Anywhere off the bank just down stream from the barrage may be ok. Bear in mind the barrage has a no go zone If you have wheels try the causeway between Yeppoon and Emu Park. My young bloke caught a snodger barra there last year . He released it back into the water. The big spring tides cut through over the small causeway and the predators are usually hanging around to feed on the bait fish. The same day he caught the barra I picked up a nice estuary cod on a lure near the causeway wall.
    Good hunting

    Thanks mate.

I was thinking of trying the rock bars around the town reaches. They always looked the goods when I've been staying in Rocky. I guess it's about time I went and found out

I lived up there years ago and saw the biggest Garra I have ever seen caught from the shore near the railway bridge. Guy used a live mullet on a big ass hand line. Sucker went close to 120 easy.
Plenty of salmon back then as well as some seriously big and ugly catfish.
We also used to catch Tarpon in the ponds just south of Rocky, however not sure if they have any water in them anymore.
Good luck mate, at least when your up there won't be too hot

Down at the Cause way lake as suggested is also really good, some great trevally, cod the odd barra and some really really big flathead live in that lake.

Good luck and post the results when you return.

    Cheers

Have to remember that, might come in handy if I ever get pulled up on my way through
