Re: Townsville - Sat 20th Anyone??

I think i have seen your boat once or twice, but you know whats its like here at the boat ramp. hard to find your own boat if you take your eyes off it.
do you fish hopkinsons often? I've only been there a few times and have found it to be fantastic for trout. dont seem to get a whole lot else there. What fish do you target? i noticed the big gold reels in your pic. look pretty serious.

Lee can you ever have too many many rods

Yeah, the ramp does get a hammering when the weather is good. I have found it just as difficult to park there on Fridays because the bloody ferry passengers take up all the spots >
The gold reels in the pic are my trolling outfits, their a couple of Okuma lever drags on Shimano Backbone rods. Mainly target pelagics around Townsville.

Have never fished Hopkinsons, mainly fished the northern reefs such as Slashers, Bramble, Britomart, Rib etc. In saying that I havn't been out for years as have spent the last 6 or 7 years living in Noosa. Moved back to Townsville last year and have only just got another boat capable of doing the trip. So am as keen as to get out there again

Hey Kendall, are you heading out?

Lee, looking at the weather I might have to give it a go. though I have a couple loose ends to take care of before I can go out.

If today was anything to go by, it blew 15-16knts and gusting to 20knts after lunch until about 5pm. If it keeps that up I'll need a raincoat . Keep the fingers crossed.

The night time weather is currently E 6knts, gusting to 8knts, therefore a night session may be in order. Bring on the fingermark!!!!.

Re: Townsville - Sat 20th Anyone??

Just got back from a little spot i have off keeper. Bit blowy on the way out yesterday afternoon. wind realy kicked up last night. Started off this morning with a ganged pilly floating under a balloon hoping for a mac. ended up with a sailfish instead! Fought the bugger for an hour and a half with a brand new rod only to find that 5 minutes into the fight, the bloody reel seat decided to srart slipping on the butt. So here i am, deckie hooked up on a big shark, Sailfish going crazy around the boat, no gimble belt because i certainly wasnt going to put the rod down to get it out of the cabin, and my first billfish. Anyways.. lost the fish beside the boat after a long fight, but it looked healthy enough swimming away. so i'm gonna call it a draw.

    Heading out again tomorrow night!

Thanks Dan. Ended up with a few lippers, coral trout, and macks. The bottom fishing was very slow. next to no run, and it was pretty messy out there so we did'nt move around as much as we should have.
The sail was definately the highlite. I'm planning on taking my wife out to bowling green bay on sunday to chase some more. It was everything i thought it would be. tail walking, long deep runs... heaven
