The tuna have started to slow down now so it aws time to target a different species.
We decided to give deep water jigging a shot. Scott and I left the marina on sunday with some new prototype deepwater jigs from TT lures. (tackle tactics). Being our first time we had no idea of what we were up for. The heavy overheads filled with 70lb braib and the sort of drag you could use to pull your car out felt strange after fishing with fly for the past 6 months of the year. Sure enough we arrived at the spot and in no time we were getting dragged around the boat by rampaging fish. The jigs worked a treat, the only problem was by the end of the day we were bruised all over and could hardly stand up. We ended up with 5 ambos, 2 kingies (which were both on one jig), a cobia, a pearl pearch and 2 sharks which were around 8-9 foot long. We also dropped a heap of fish, most likely due to the sunsetted TLD beastmastes. There was that much drag pressure that the gimbal snapped off my rod and the last to runners on the rod were crushed. It was an eye opener for both of us.
cheers jason
I hooked a shark and it pulled me around for about 20 mins. The thing was huge yet it only managed to pull about 40m of line out. Crazy drag settings!!! I collapsed in a heap so scott took the rod. He had also collapsed after 20mins of punishment. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]
what???? from tuna on fly to squidgies with fireline to 300g jigs all in 3 weeks.... next we'll be off to Eucumbene trolling for trout with lead core lines and tassie devils......
Looks like weather was crap but good fun all round.. Are photos from your Canon??
Hey Rob,
I think we will leave the trout to you.
Yes all the photos were from the canon. The underwater shot of the shark turned out well considering it was still about 5m away. Have you got your underwater case yet?
