What do you use for LIve bait - Yellow tail or mullet?
And what is the kind of rig you use for Jews in a river??

I use whatever bait i can catch at the location. And if bait is hard to come by i defrost some good old slimy mack fillets. I find when the jews are small (under 8kg) they take small yackas and pike but when they are over 8kg legal size tailor and mullet are the go. Ive had no luck with much else.
I use line classes from 3 to 10kg, best being 11.8 on 3kg and 16kg on 6kg line.
I use a no 4 plonka set up on a 24kg trace . I run the sinker between 2 swivels. Best hooks ive found are gamagatsu's octapus. i use a 10/0.

Is the a tide a major factor when fishing for jews in the river. If so what do you find the most productive??

I hope you dont mind me giving the The shoalhaven a go this coming full moon. Im thinking of camping on the bank for the night.

By far the tide changes are most productive but lately i have been pulling a few on the run out tide.
I have heard the beaches on the island are fishing well for jews lately but i havnt given it a go yet.
