that looks to be about 40lb
we didnt weigh. trying to lift it out of the water by its tail was fun. it was caught on 15lb line on an abu of some sort
hey you should have kept it mick...then u could have boneless, skinless, mackeral steaks, flathead, whiting, bream, barramundi, coral trout, and the list goes on..thats what they used to sell em as years ago..back in the 70s..mainly the chinese restaurents bought them and catfish for all of the above

Hate to tell u this roman but apparantly they still do..if u go to the raptis seafood page there is a pic of some guys holding the carcass of some at the auction with a caption.."Large Variety of Fish"..i thought they stopped it years ago because of the mercury content in them. Hey they are quite good eating when they are small...

caught this one early this year at port stephens in 8 meters of water on 15lb spin gear while also chasing flattys, i didnt think they got this big down in NSW, i released it on the beach (had to go back to get the camera) and i had an angry woman abuse me for letting a shark go were people were swimming. lol

Mate, I get 'em in Moreton Bay and used to target 'em specifically too. The 10 footer my little feller refers too was caught near Amity bank on a tandem 10/0 gamakatsu to 50lb line 24kg penn mariner rodd and penn 245ld reel........baited with a whole large squid. It took over 2 hrs to get boatside (couldn't get the anchor up to chase) and was released.
Got some pics of smaller specimens
Meant to mention that sand crab are the favoured bait with squid second.
