Got my PB dhufish yesterday after many years trying. Got two almost identical on the same spot at the same time between both anglers. Much hollering was had and quite a few coldies to celebrate.

Nah, didn't weigh them unfortunately Pete. Bottomed out some lame scales we had, estimate them around the 15-17kg mark. Great fun and give a good account of themselves.

You get them out wide or on the forgotten inshore reefs.
Guys I don't "think" they are related to pearlies like east coast ,
but they are about the same quality as Red emperor in eating and fighting ability.
Thay can be caught on shallower reefs , we used to catch them with a spear gun on 15 m deep reefs. They get hammered by recos so people tend to be heading further and further to get them.
