Hi all
Ive noticed on PC-cillin (virus protecter) when I view the logs that I have a lot of cloaking going on and I have no idea what cloaking is.
Anyone know what that is?
Thanks

It appears you have the version of PC-Cillin that has a built in firewall, or an application that acts like it.
Cloaking is often referred to as masking of a person identity, at any given time of the day, there are probably about 100,000-200,000 computers infected with viruses that take over peoples machines and use them as what is known as "BOTS", these machines then start probing all IP addresses possibly to find vulnerable computers to infect by entering the system on an open un-secure port.
It appears as though your PC-Cillin is carrying out some form of protection on the computer systems ports, this is a good things, and don't change that
On the other hand, it could also be detecting harmful scripts on web sites that you may be visiting, the best option for this is to get a Web Browser that blocks add and scripts like Fire Fox or Maxthon both can be obtained here http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/ and http://www.maxthon.com/en/index.htm both browsers feature add blocking and security features, how ever Fire Fox takes a bit of getting used too, Maxthon is an all around easy to use browser, also perfect for browsing sites like this one as you can open multiple browsers on tabs, instead of a scatter of pages on the bottom task bar (A complete mess that way).
On the other hand it could be a totally new feature I haven't seen yet, and it could be doing something different, if you can take a screen shot and show us what the logs look like, that would give me an good insight as to what it is doing.

David.
Easy solution get rid of your PC and buy a MAC
Better, faster, easier to use and virtually no viruses!

As David said about harmful web sites.Just keep off the porn sites Adrian. LOL
That's because no one uses them and thus no one bothers writing viruses for them. They're already dysfunctional enough without a virus.Originally Posted by Dug
LOL thats not fair is it, most viruses are developed on a UNIX based system, considering the OSX operating system is built on Unix technology, it wont surprise me if they join the Windowz club very soon

David.
I dumped Norton about 6 months back..am using PC_cillin and love it..i have not had any problems with it.
Tell me more...Norton is not keeping pace with the spam and viruses

Ever since I got PC_cillin I havent had any probs and it seems to prompt me to upgrade quite often.

Responded to your e-mail Adrian, i hope it helps you out.
I must say i was shocked by the IP address that you are being attacked by, they all come from Major telco's around the world, kind of freaky to be honest.

David.

Hello Adrian,
In regards to cloaking harming your system, it is too hard to say, i cant tell from those logs what has been granted access to your system or not, i can only see what has been blocked.
I am no so much concerned about viruses, i am sure PC-Cillin can at least stop them to a degree, i am more concerned about programs being installed on your system remotly by and unknown source, and then opening up ports on your computer to be used for harmfull things, this happens often and Anti Virus software does not detect this, that would require the assistance of a proper firewall either software based or hardware based.
Hope this helps, and do check yoru e-mail when you get back home, be safe and enjoy your holiday.
Cheers,
David.
