Have a gander in here buddy, if they can't help then have a chat to your local Hardly Normal or the shop with a disc in its name techs...

Ok here goes...I'm no IT expert so hope this helps!
Open Int Explorer.
Look for the 'Tools' tab at the top of the page....click on it.
Scroll down to 'internet options' and click on that.
Go to the privacy tab...click again.....and down the bottom you will see the pop up blocker.
Check the box, apply, ok it!!
Done.
While you are there you can clear cookies and internet temp files from your computer from the 'General' tab located also in 'Tools....internet options'.
You can download for free, Ad Aware (Lavasoft) which checks and quarantines spyware etc. It wont check or remove viruses but does help.
Hope you understand this mate. Good luck.
Ad aware is tops, been using it for years, very good anti spyware software.
Just posted here if anyone is interested in dealing with spyware and popups. cheers Karl.

Yeah, I have ad-aware. and that is the place I am used to finding the pop-up blocker....now it just has 'web sites' To overide cookies....blahblah blah!!! So annoying!!!
you will probably find a registry cleaner here

Warning warning Will Robinson..dont use registry cleaners..bad bad news. Unless you know the insides of your PC they can prove a nightmare. They can remove Registrys that the operating system needs to WORK
To all of the afore-mentioned posters;
What the heck are you all talking about?
No, no, better not tell me. So long as it keeps working OK, I'm happy.

Sean, it sounds like you know just about enough to get yourself in trouble, system restore can be handy, but only to back up data that would have otherwise been lost before formatting your hard drive and reinstalling windows. You may say that you do it all the time and it works fine, well, needless to say, you are either lucky, or sitting on a time bomb. Anything that has been changed since you saved the system restore is still lurking somewhere waiting to cause errors. If you are a serious tinkerer, you should learn how to format your hard drive, and don't hesitate to do it. I can teach you a few ways to make this a lot easier. In the mean time, make sure any files that you don't want to lose are burnt to CD or stored on a seperate partition to your windows partition, ie. C:
Use Opera, bingo no more popups. Cuts down the amount of work Spybot and Adaware have to do too, to 99% nothing, in my case.... (yes, sometimes clicking a link I know I shouldn't, but do anyway, will give Spybot a job). RegHeal works fine, not real sure if you can get it free anymore, but I have a legit older copy of it here that came off a magazine cd, and I can vouch for it working fine. If you like I can email it to you. Any work on the registry should be done only after making a full backup of said registry.
BTW, wtf is XP2000?
glenda@howamazing.com you are right, just enough to get into trouble...looking forwards to dropping out the window one day though!! Thanks guys Sean
Yeah Chop,
I'm happy if it's working. Like you, if it's not, then a trip is in order. Can't handle all this high tech stuff.
You should see the drama at our place when the power goes off, resetting all the things, each of which has a different way of re-setting the time.
Anyway, that's wife's job. I pay her big bucks to do things like that.
Showed her how to mow once. I sat on the back steps having a drink and was offering what I term constructive criticism in helping her increase her multi-skilling levels. She's never done it since.
