    help needed with ""attachment query""

need some advice,,,,before this gets moved

i've had what i think is a gremlin attack me again with this computor

canoeodle,, has been assisting me 200%,, with getting pics for the calendar idea,,,and he has been emailing me those of what he has passed onto him,,

my problem lies,, in the area of the ""attachment"" that comes with his email,,

after i open the attachment,, and see the pic,,, if i ""down arrow"" to view the next pic,,, i enter into what i can only call an ""album"" of pics that have nothing to do with the original,,

ie,, i'm getting a host of pics,,,,icons,,,, and just general stuff,,,that i have no idea where its coming from

at first i thought,,,must be something from the original sender

and i made canoeodle aware of the ""gremlin"" in case it was coming from him,,,

now it gets weirder,,, i've noticed,, after scanning back to the original email,,the pics in it remain,,, and every attachment there after ""populate"" and add additional pics,,,icons,,and other stuff,,,that wasn't in the first attachment

some of the pics i know,,,but 75-80%,,,i have absolutely no idea of who they are,,,what it is,,, or where it came from

now it gets weirder,,(well for me anyway),,, i onforwarded these emails to mrs choppa's 'putor,,, and the same thing happens,,,but only on these attachments,,,when i onforward to my work 'putor,,, nothing,,, only the pics appear

yesterday,,, due to a rare day off,,,work sent me 2 emails that had attachments,,, each 4 pages,,,but i could only access the first page,,,then all the following pages (about 20 or so) had various ""icons"" and stuff,,,

when i forwarded these back to my work this morning,,,and opened them,,,nothing,,,only the info that what was sent appeared

    its never happened before???????????????
    can it get any better??????????????,,,,,,,,,,,,,,http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgG_TxEPaQE

Chopper, try saving the individual pic to a folder on your desktop and viewing it in isolation.

Some photoviewing programmes have an inbuilt preview/slideshow component (which I think is an unintentional bug) that fires up if you scroll your mouse.....it happens with irfan view. In other words, you can be looking at a pic and you accidently scroll or do some other mouse operation and (and this happens with irfanview) the programme that you are using to view the pic, suddenly goes into slideshow mode and commences to open every associated file on your computer..jpegs,mpegs gifs etc......things/pics that you didn't even know were on your puter............I had some porn surface recently in similar circumstance and when I checked "properties" it had been downloaded over 4 yrs ago when a particularlytroublesome foster kid was respiting here.........he had saved it/them to a file hidden in the programmes folder which he had named as a programme.......because it was a jpeg and for some reason known only to irfanview.........irfanview had found it and stuck it in the slideshow????????

I hope I am understanding what is happening with you and this may be the answer, other than that ?????????????

Yep KingTin has it mate In outlook and outlook express when you open a picture and click the next button (to view the next picture) you will get the next picture in the attachments directory, not hte next pic in the email. depending on what program you have opening the pictures of course Anyways This will include all sorts of icons and strange pictures that have been sent to you including web email pictures. you know when you get an email thats prettied up? they hold a number of seprate images, these are probablly the ones you don't recognise. Anyways As Kingtin said, save them one at a time to a directory and then go in and view them Hope i explained myself ok Its soooo much easier doing this sorta stuff face to face!! Lol..

    cheers

Chop, just in case, I would do a complete spyware and virus scan, Ad-aware and AVG are both free and very good programs which work very well together to clean up most of these 'gremlins' assuming it isn't what Kev suggested. I hope this isn't losing any of the pics I've sent you, but I still have the original emails of most of them if not all, so let me know if you need them resent.
