I can turn my computer on and not much more than that.

Any way the problem

Have Norton Internet Security on the puter and gets auto down loads. Problem is that the security is that high from one of the last down loads that I can not open pages / links...can not even get into my optus net cable home page.

To get on I have to go down to the bottom tool bar and disable my internet security.

Where do I go or how do I turn down the security level

Any one?

Please help

Don't use Nortons. All I could suggest is to go into Nortons and read the Help section, it should explain to you how to change the settings to lower the security a bit. Other than that have a look at Symantec's website in the support section or FAQ section.

You can use the Auto fix tool on their website or select fix it myself

Sounds like something was "rejected" access at all times within Norton's internet security and now the software is blocking this and causing you to not get access to what you need. I don't know how to get into the software list or access list in this software but if you can find that and remove all the rules you can start allowing and rejecting or blocking everything again (same as when it would have been first installed). but I agree with Marlin Mike to a degree with this software, I only ever get it installed on PC's for people that have less than no idea on computers and the internet

Do you run windows XP and install the windows updates regulary? If so you should have some extra security within IE now also that will protect you from a lot of nasties on the web. You should always have an antivirus system installed (Norton's is my favorite antivirus but there other software is a pain, not as bad as Macafe though!!)
If you don't go searching the web on suspect pages, and can identify a bad page when it starts loading and close it asap as well as knowing what software plugins you should and shouldn't install I reckon you will be right without Norton's internet security installed. Also if you have a switch installed (usually purchased to connect more than one PC to a broadband connection) This gives you a LOT of extra security but won't stop you from installing a doggy plugin witch is what kills IE in most cases..

I have XP and dont go to any doggy web pages. Ausfish is realy about it. Might have to wait till my Norton expires.

Why wait till it expires? just uninstall nortons and install a better system. i use Trend Micro PC-cillin......sweet as never a hitch or conflict on any sites or pages, and never conflicts with any software i've installed

Gotta agree with Mike; I've got 9+ years of hardcore IT experience behind me (from Windows 3.x through to Server 2003, Linux and Solaris) from Level 1 help desk through to statewide multi node network administration - Nortons is a pain where ever it's been installed.

Norton is the devil, shout ...shout ..shout at the devil ......

Most importantly go into start / programs /control panel / add remove programs / and remove norton security asap.

Then download a nice free virus program like AVG free edition and also get a free worm/adaware program like Ad-aware. links provided below and you will never look back.

Or if you still want to use norton, open the program.
Click on personal firewall, options, network wizard

the wizard should find your network address and ask you if you want to trust it, say yes and you should be ok.

Sounds like you have something on your machine triggering the virus protection, blocking web access.

go into grisoft and download the free software. Its free and it updates nearly every day. been using it for a few years now and havent had any problems with it
